Windows 7 upgrade

I have an old laptop i say old it`s 3 yrs old
Specs are : INTEL PENTIUM DUAL CORE cpu T2310 @1.46 GHz 2GB RAM and it`s a 32 bit
Would upgrading it to windows 7 make it run faster as it`s a bit sluggish at the moment

What OS is on it now? If XP then Win 7 probably won't be any faster. If it has Vista on it now then you may see a little better performance.

Maybe you just need to so some cleanup and use msconfig to reduce the number of programs being loaded at startup.

Is it slower than it used to be or has it always been sluggish?

I would not say it make your PC faster. clean reinstalls always make PC's faster.

1) Check your PC with the Upgrade Advisor:

2) Check for Windows 7 drivers for your PC.

Its seems slower than it used to be just seems to take longer to start up it is vista

Clean installs always run smoothly, but you might see the same performance increase by taking Strollin's advice. You don't need to have too much running at start-up; just your AV and some stuff that has Microsoft in the name. Never hurts to run disk clean-up and defrag your hard drive as well.

The main thing you should do is look over these articles:

A lot of it is trivial, but you should make an informed decision over whether or not you would prefer 7 or Vista on a daily basis.

I can live with them i have win 7 on my own laptop, i really do feel this other laptop wiklk benefit from 7

The one about doing a back-up is so you can restore Vista as it is right now if you have a problem with Windows 7.

How many items are checked in msconfig>Startup? These are freeloaders sucking up your RAM and CPU, mostly to spy on you. You can uncheck all of them except your AV and gadgets.

Run a lean mean AV like free MS Security Essentials which doesn't bloat your OS.

Clean and order the HD perfectly each month with state-of-the-art CCleaner ("Run Cleaner" and REgistry tabs) then Auslogics Disk and REgistry defraggers.

Watch the Event Viewer>Admin View for repeat errors to google for eventual resolution.

Do these things whether you keep Vista or migrate to Win7.

Use the drivers given by Win7 installer, with newer arriving quickly via optional Windows Updates. Any drivers then missing in Device Manager can be found on the SUpport Downloads webpage for your computer or device model. Only change drivers if performance dictates, starting with chipset and display.

I have upgraded the laptop and it`s running windows 7 - the laptop runs really well i am so happy that ot does and i haven run into any problems (cept the laptops usual glitch but i sorted that) i am glad i did it it`s like a new laptop running really well
