hi
I had windows Vista and did an online upgrade to 7. I loaded windows 8 preview
which was a big mistake. I partitioned my hard drive and reloaded Vista.
The question I have is do I have to rebuy the 7 upgrade again. I shouldn't
have to but I don't have any documentation. Need some expert help.:(

Her is a tutorial on doing a clean install with Windows upgrade. I believe this is what you are looking for. If not, post back and we will help you. I might also suggest to go to your motherboard's web site and download all of the drivers you will need and put them on a CD/DVD or USB drive so you will have them ready.

I think that as long as you have the genuine product key for the online upgrade that you did then you don't have to rebuy the 7 upgrade. Just upgrade the same way and use the product key that you have.

If you have lost the product key then contact Microsoft on phone, tell them your tale of woe and request them to activate. Most likely they shall believe you and do it.

Yes you will need the Win7 Product Key which you purchased so hopefully you saved it like you would any other purchase of that cost. With it you are entitled to reinstall as often as you want.

If you boot the installer with an OS on the HD it will see it and allow use of the key during install, otherwise you'll have to do the quick registry workaround after install to activate Win7 upgrade version on a cleaned HD: Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version

Once you find the Product Key let us know if you need the latest official installer with SP1 to burn to DVD or write to bootable flash stick to Clean Install Windows 7
