I'm using the build 7600.

It all started when i inserted a SD card. It didn't work so I inserted the SD card on my camera and plugged it in by usb. The second I inserted the usb to my laptop my usb mouse turned off and my wlan just literally vanished(it wasn't even in device manager.) Usb root hub with exclamation marks appeared in the device manager.

I tried uninstalling them and letting win7 install them again and wlan wont come back and the mouse wont work.
I also tried uninstalling everything below usb conrtollers and generic volume and still no wifi.
I tried installing the drivers from the manufacturer of my laptop after uninstalling the old ones and still none:(

I was able to get the wlan running again after uninstalling everything below usb controllers in the device manager I restarted my comp in the middle of it cuz wlan reappeared and if i waited for it to finish wlan would disappear.

Now Every time I plug in a usb device wlan disappears and everything starts all over again...

Here's a screenshot of my device manager if it helps:

I have 4 usb ports, an internal wifi adapter and a card reader.

Sounds like a power issue. Change your power scheme to Always On. Test.

It's on high performance.
And on advanced tab Wireless settings are on high performance and usb settings to enabled on battery and plugged.

Doesn't seem like a power issue cuz this never happened to my xp dual boot and vista before I upgraded.

Try uninstalling all the root hubs and scanning the hardware again to re-install ...

When all else fails ... :)

Is the pic current? what rev of win 7? 32 bit?

ken
Yes the pic is current, where my wlan is visible and functioning.
I'm using 32 bit.

I did that already and they just came back with the exclamation marks + my wlan disappeared in the device manager.

catly1, have you installed the newest driver for your chip set, well if not check out this link Intel GMA 965
Well I'm using a custom vista driver.
The readme did said it may have some problems so it might be it.
I'll try the official:)

Sounds like you may need to reinstall windows and hope it loads the drivers properly. I'd do a new, clean install.

Is that the only option I have left? most of my Windows XP apps and games are in my win7 partition.

Edit: Added a XP screenshot of device manager if it helps.

What's your disk partitioning layout? When you re-install Win 7 it will create an "old" Win 7 folder with the old Win 7 files there, but anything else is untouched.

My usb ports are also malfunctioning badly. When copying something the paths will suddenly not exist and when I go to Computer to look at the drives, it says they are there, but the contents are empty or messed up. This is on my G60 243CL Hp laptop.

To do a reinstall on the same partition usually what I do is make single folder , call it "backup", then place all the files I want to keep in there. Use cut and paste, not copy and paste to put them there because it has the same end effect , just a lot quicker. Then do the reinstall without formatting.
