Windows 7 users urged to uninstall broken update that wreaks havoc on

KB3024777 - reinstalled this update again after the failed install and everything is working. Those programs no longer crash.

Quote from another website:

It seems this update (KB3024777) removes kb3004394 and vanish without a trace (except in History). Neither seems to be available in the uninstall list afterwards.

That's exactly what I see on my machine. I've run Belarc Advisor and neither show up in the list of updates although KB3024777 does show as installed in Windows Updates history but not in the list of installed updates.

Exactly what happened in my case! Not looking at WU anymore, no worries!

This motherloving update was the death of me the last two days.
I couldn't update my graphics drivers because of certificate issues, leaving me at a black screen on login. Also, Windows constantly nagged me with a window that said my Windows wasn't activated, even though in System properties it did show activated and genuine, as well as when running slui.exe

Oh, and another thing: whenever I opened IE 11, it would open another page beside my homepage and ask me to set Bing as homepage, search default etc. Every godloving time!

My most recent image was from five days ago but I don't want to lose the important emails I have received since then.
Shouldn't they reside on the email server? I use hotmail and I can reimage back to whenever and not have my emails affected. email backups on your OS partition will be affected of course.

Also, related to the thread I'm not convinced some of the other updates from that bunch aren't problematic (possible Service Control Manager issues).

I use Thunderbird and keep my mail local. Fortunately I was able to copy my Thunderbird profile to my laptop and set it up here. I was actually able to get remotely, but with no Start Menu I had to take the long way 'round every time just to get the client open.

I will be able to fix the problem easily once I'm actually sitting at the computer. My main problem is an inability to insert any troubleshooting/recovery CDs into my drive from 400 miles away. In the meantime, it just bugs me no end to have the thing not working right. Oh, well. :p

It would be best if you went back to the thread you originally created to try and solve this problem: http://www.sevenforums.com/bsod-help-support/340644-3-bsod-since-reformat.html

Explain in your post if you followed Arc's recommendations and any other steps you may have taken to try and remedy the situation. Since Arc has been a bit under the weather he may not respond promptly, but I'll keep an eye on it in his absence.

I installed 4394 and had no problems then 24777 came down the pipe and I installed that one. I can see both in Update History, but not in Installed Updates, nor do they show in Belarc.

More of Noel's wisdom:
If you do a Check for Updates on any Windows machine, even if the 394 update is ready to be installed, it will be flushed, and not installed - and MS not longer offer it anyhow so it won't appear (I doubt very much that the new version they release will be under the same KB number, as it would confuse things with the 24777 update out there already).
There is no point in hiding it.

After installing the 4394 update, I have no internet explorer, I can view installed updates but am not allowed to remove them, my computer has been unable to receive updates from MS any later than the 12/9 batch, and a system restore to a date prior to 12/9 has not helped. I don't know what else to do other than bring it to a shop along with a wheelbarrow of cash. Anyone have any ideas?

Run Windows Update?

Well Golden; so far I have not encountered any issues; however; if when the next batch of updates comes down the pipe; I have a issue like some of the others have had where it wont install the updates; then I will probably have to go into the update history; find that specific update and uninstall it. But for now it seems all is good.

Have you tried to force a check for Updates? It's at the top in the left pane.

Hopefully you'll get the KB3024777 to uninstall 4394.

EDIT:

If that fails, go here: Download Update for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 for x64-based Systems (KB3024777) from Official Microsoft Download Center to download 24777, run it to uninstall 4394.

If that fails here's two options:
It can happen that you cannot boot into Windows which is problematic as you cannot remove the update then using the method described above.

Options that you have at this point are to boot into Safe Mode if Windows boots still into it, or to use recovery media to run System Restore to undo the update.

Source: http://How to remove installed updates | www.ghacks.net
You can also try tapping F8 or what ever function key for your machine to get into Advanced Boot Options. Scroll down to Last Known Good Configuration and boot into that.
