My friend recently upgraded from Windows XP Pro SP3 to Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit.
The video memory in windows xp was 32 mb. But after upgrading the system shows video memory as 0. His pc does not has a graphics card.Is there any way to bring the 32 mb video memory back because none of the games he used to play early are now working
And in the bios it still says 32 mb selected.
Maybe he needs the driver but without and graphic card which drivers does he need?

The 32 MB of video memory was most likely a LIE. A lot of Integrated Graphics Cards do this. They use RAM and don't have their own dedicated VRAM. I have such on card that lied about its memory capabilities. For my laptop it has an ATI Radeon x1400, it said it had 256 MB of HyperMemory*. In reality it only had 128 MB the rest was system RAM. In Windows XP the drivers were capable of fooling the computer and consumer.

* ATI/Dell never defined what HyperMemory was about when purchasing the computer.

Old AMD socket A system. All things considering your friend would be better off staying with XP on that computer than trying to get Windows 7 to work, and hold off on Windows 7 until such a time as he gets a new computer. Big reason being that there will be zero drivers for anything in it, and will have to use either whatever Windows installs as default or use XP drivers (if they will install).

Assuming that it is integrated video, either from the motherboard or computer manufacturer's site, or depending on which GPU was used on it the GPU manufacturer's site.

Just in case, regardless of where you get the drivers for it, things like Aero will not work on it.

In windows 7 graphics driver was present in windows/system32/drivers/vgapnp.sys
the driver file is vgapnp.sys

in windows xp the drivers are present in windows/system32/drivers/s3gnbm.sys
the driver file being s3gnbm.sys and one more file in windows/system32/s3gnb.dll

So, how to use these drivers in windows 7?
