Windows 7 + Vista Advice needed please

Thats handy,the more user friendly the better for me.I have only one friend who really knows computers but he is working in India at the moment doing some pc stuff, if it wasnt for that i would not even have needed to come on here and bug you
You are very patient and i thankyou. I have a ten second delay when switching between inputs on my monitor/tv and my mind tends to wander in that time then i forget and i am back to square one It just takes me a while to get used to new stuff and when i actualy get the printer out of the box i will be using a lot of ink no doubt. I should learn how to type without looking at the keyboard as well and get a board with a light on the caps lock key. I will get back to it as soon as i can.

We are glad to help you Liam, and willing to answer all of the questions you have.

Did you understand the difference between booting either OS from the BIOS, or creating a Windows-managed Dual Boot menu?

Booting from BIOS by setting one HD as first to boot in BIOS setup, then booting the other HD OS if you want it instead using the one-time Boot Menu key, keeps the HD's independent to come and go as you please. To set it up this way, unplug the Vista HD when you install Win7 to your new HD. Then when you plug Vista HD back in, boot it by tapping the one-time Boot Menu key (F8 on your computer) to boot Vista HD instead.

If you want a Windows-managed Dual Boot menu when you start your computer, then keep Vista HD plugged in during Win7 install and the installer will configure the menu. This interlocks the HD's however so that you'll need to always keep the Vista HD plugged in if you want to boot the Win7 HD, at least until we help you recover Win7's ability to boot on its own.

Feel free to ask any questions about these two choices as I only want to know that you understand them fully before we proceed.

Fantastic...im back on Win7 and booting with Vista if i choose and am happy that i came hear and gratefull for all the help you have given me and sorry if i frustrated you with my lack of knowledge and slow learning. I am now going on a little holiday with both of my kids so hopefully wont be back on here for a while.

How are you dual booting, are you getting a screen like this when you power on the machine or are you using the BIOS to choose which OS to boot?

Thankyou...i took the bios option which seems to work a treat...i just wanted to get it going and may look into the other option you showed me but for now i just want to use and play with Win7, also took the chance to tidy all my wires in the pc case which needed doing...regards Liam

If I were you I'd leave the way it boots alone as you have the best way, that way neither OS, W_7 nor Vista is dependent on the other, that's the way we meant for you to do it.

I certainly dont meet people like you in the real world because this country seems to be full of people who are too busy looking out for themselves, certainly in my area anyway. In fact the last time i was so impressed with peoples attitudes was when i used to go snowboarding in Vermont 10+ years ago so maybe its an American thing
