Maybe we can help. I have had very few problems with 7. I have used almost ALL builds and even with the betas I had little trouble. Maybe it's a hardware problem or your Windows has become corrupted. Check out the event viewer if you can boot into it. Do a system repair or recovery from the system repair disc and let us know.

Welcome to the forums.

Would you be so kind as to provide as some info on your computer system's hardware?

I've been using Win7 since the beta and rc days, heck, I've even got it installed on an ASUS 1002HA netbook.

This is the first version of windows that I enjoy since the days of Win98 SE.

You have come to the right place. I'm not an expert but there are some chaps who are amazing in there depth and breadth of knowledge.

Hardly sounds like a Win7 problem. Did you check hardware compatibility prior to installation?

Sounds like a user problem, no offense. But windows 7 can't disable booting from your cd/dvd rom drive during pc startup, that would be a motherboard issue. You may have a failing motherboard, which would explain the crashes.

Thanks all - I do not take offense that oit might be my fault,

I have formatted the hard drive to start over, but when I try to boot from the Win 7 disk I gET A BOOT DISK FAILURE. I am going to reset the mobo and try again. If it does not work, I will post all the hardware info on here and hope some of you can help me.

I am not very patient at this point - not because of this - but with life, this is just another pain in the backside (like my typing)!

ok = I reinstalled Windows 7 - without too much problem.

It reinstalled ok. (I had to call Microsoft for activation the 2nd time)

It booted ok. I reattached some hardware - CRASH.

I went back to the first configuration = just mouse and keyboard and ethernet - CRASH

WHY???

OK - MOBO MA790X-UD4p - gigabyte

8 GB RAM - (all have been check out OK

Video card is GeForce 7500GT (I also tried an ATI

As soon as the login screen appears - CRASH = NO VIDEO but the computer is still running.

I tried to go back to the bios - but when I hold the delete key it does not go back

SAFE MODE with networking ---- VIDEO CRASH

SAFE MODE no network - CRASH

WTF????????

This is one of the most frustrating problems I have ever had.

EVEN WHEN I START IT IN THE REPAIR MODE - the damn video crashes

UPDATE

OK - i TURNED OFF EVERYTHING, DONNED MY TRUSTY STATIC GUARD WRIST THING. I then unhooked EVERYTHING from the mobo. (I mean drives)

I not only cleared the CMOS the old-fashioned way, I tok the battery out for a minute or two.

I REattached ONLY the system drive and ===== NO VIDEO CRASH!

OK -step 2 - I attAched the SECOND hard drivedrive - NO VIDEO CRASH

I am beginning to think that the problem AMY be with my DVD drive. But why?? It was working fine for a few days, I even ripped one of my very own DVDs (yes - one that I owned)

BUT HERE IS THE ISSUE:

I finally got into the Bios and the two drive that I have running - the C drive (which is partitioned so it is C and D) and the 2nd drive (E and F - yes partitioned)

are in the Bios as the MASTER 2 and SLAVE 2 drives.

when the DVD drive was hooked up it showed up as Hard Drive 0 master.

Could this be the problem?

I KNOW that the drives are hooked up correctly to the MOBO because I labeled them as 0 -1-2-3 when I ran them from the MOBO.

I am going to shut down, recheck the connections to the MOBO and then connect the other hard drives before I connect the DVD.

Any suggestions????

I am going to hoop up the other drives, one at a time, then try the DVD drive.

ok - now

I have 3 of the 4 hard drives in

The first 1 is a 3200 GB drive , partitioned In the Bios it is IDE 2 Master

The second hard drive is a 1 TB drive and is now 3M

The third drive is now the 2 Slave in the Bios

The DVD drive is not attached

IN THE DEVICE MANAGE

the C drive - on SATA_0 (C and D partitions) is the Location 0 (0-0-0)
the 3rd drive - on SATA-2 (drive G) is Location 1 (0-1-0)
the 2nd drive on SATA_1 (drive E and F) is location 0 (1-0-0)

I neglected to say that the D partition, for some reason, is only 100MB. I do not know how that happened. I do not remember partitioning it now that I think about it.

STILL NO VIDEO CRASH.

I have hooked up Drive 4 - no prblems

It looks like the problem is the DVD drive. If I hook it up, it may crash. Since it did work with the Windows 7 DVD, I assume then that it may be a driver issue.

Am I correct?
