It appears I successfully installed Windows 7 but when the computer reboots the logo comes up and then the screen goes to a blue screen with dots in it. There is what looks like a large cursor in the upper left hand corner but the computer is frozen on this screen.

Any suggestions?

Try installing 7 again and post back.

Can you please also fill in your System Specs in User CP so we can see if there are any hardware problems.

Thanks for the help.

Windows suddenly began working but then when I rebooted the blue screen again reappeared. Does this indicate a hardware problem such as with memory?

I have seen BSOD before but this screen is not the same. It is a screen with dots in it and a small square in the middle of the screen. I was wondering if it is some kind of video type problems. It is nothing like the blue screen you would get with Windows XP.

Could be ram. Windows 7 takes more than XP. What do you have 2gb?

Offiically 7 works with 2gb, but does not leave much room for error. Check the event viewer next time there is a problem

Also take the memory diagnostic test over night. Type those word in search to find the test.

Can you boot into Safe Mode to update your video driver? Check the computer or card model's Support Download's webpage for a newer driver, or try another Win7 or Vista driver to see if they work.

Can you default to onboard graphics to test if the problem goes away, or swap out graphics card?

If you can boot into Safe Mode, you also have access to the Event Viewer and Performance-Diagnostics logs to see what is causing the problem.

Again I thanks you for your help and hope you had a nice Easter.

I unhooked everything from my computer including a cable that I forgot. It went from my computer to my TV. I also unhooked all the hard drivers other than C. I reloaded Windowns and it worked okay.

However, I then went to Nvidia to get the latest driver for my video card (7900 GT) and as I installed them I again had the problem of the blue screen. I then attempted to repair but with no luck. I again reloaded Windows 7 but this time I left off my TV cable. It seemed Windows loaded okay but then I had the same problem as before.

I wonder why Windows 7 does not like the upgrades to the video drivers. If I get it working again, I think I will be afraid to update any drivers.

I then unplugged the other hard drives and the sound cable and reloaded Windows again. This time it worked again. Everything seems to work but my Realtrek audio. I took a chance and loaded this driver and it worked.

I have spent all morning on this but will continue to play with this afternoon. I began with Windows 95 and have never had so much trouble loading an operating system. I had less problems with Linux loading than this.

If anyone has any comments or suggestions, I would be more than happy to hear them.

Again, Thanks for the help.

It sounds like you had a tv tuner or graphics card outputted to a tv, and that the bluescreen happens when WIn7 loads drivers for that device.

Try using only the video driver given by the installer. See what Windows Update delivers as an Optional update; this is how Win7 delivers drivers which have grown stale in the installer if you don't connect to internet during installation.

If you absolutely need to supply a video driver due to resolution or other issues, use Vista drivers if Win7 is not available on your video card or computer model Support Downloads webpage. Then try installing those in Vista compatbility mode.

The issue may be the settings configurations associated with the video cable and tv you refer to.

Everything is now working; however, it is very unstable and crashes quite often.

I wonder if I should remove the tv card.

I just attempted to let Windows update my videocard driver and now I am back to getting only a blue screen. I think I may have reached my limit and go back to windows XP which at least works.

Sorry you are having that trouble James.

Don't worry, you are not alone- plenty are having all kinds of issues with 7 - plenty have problems installing too.

Seems to be the video card - there must be others here with the same card who can throw some light on the issue.

I certainly appreciate your help in this matter.

I rolled the video driver back and it is again working but I am beginning to think you are correct there is some problem with this video card. I attempted to install a video player and it seems to be installed. However, when I attempt to run it it immeidately crashes the computer.
