Windows 7 / Windows 8 for my new samsung laptop

Hi

I have bought a new samsung laptop. I have installed a 30 day trial version of windows 7. But the loading is taking long time and i am seeing black screen for long time.

It is core i5 laptop
Which version of windows 7 / 8 (beta) supported?

I bought this laptop with dos version. I guess it is a mistake. The present windows 7 is not working good on my laptop which i got it from a torrent site.

I have another 27 days to go before activating it.

The laptop should have come with Windows 7, and yes, it's completely compatible. If you don't have a license sticker with a Windows 7 key, you should look into buying one ASAP. Do NOT use a torrented version, as it could contain malware.

Unsure how you buy a laptop with DOS version these days? I'm not even sure what you mean by DOS version. I could see the laptop being sold without an OS...but even then it would be completely unexpected as it shipped with an OEM copy of Windows most likely...unless it's some Linux laptop...(and those are rare).

Is there any specific version of windows 7 for samsung?

I don't want to have malware in my os.

If you want Win7 you need to buy it. You reasonably qualify for retail Builder's OEM version since the laptop is not completely built yet without an OS. It gets a considerable price break at around $100 US.

If that is more than you can afford now then your options are to use free Linux which has many choices but they are not exactly consumer friendly.

Or you can install and give a test run to Windows 8 which is in beta phase right now. It's not recommended to run beta versions on a "production machine" which is one you rely upon for use however it is as stable as Win7 and includes many improvements. The only difference is it starts up to a touch-screen type interface that function as clickable buttons on a non-touchscreen device. It takes some getting used to, maybe customizing, but it is free and as a beta-tester will get you in on deals like half-price pre-sale or free Signature editions for hosting a preview party later when it is nearing release.

1. This is not the first PC I have seen that came with DOS - makes it a bit cheaper.

2. The fact that it loads very slowly is a problem of your HDD which is probably a 5400RPM model. The best cure is if you exchange it for a e.g. 120GB SSD.

3. For the time being (until mid Jan 2012) you could run with the free Windows8. Then you can still decide whether to buy Windows8 or Windows7. Windows 8 "Release Preview" Released

4. Don't deal with Torrents.

5. All Windows 7/8 will run on your PC. There is nothing special to a Samsung.

I will go and use the windows 8 beta for one month.

Then I will decide which one to use.

You should be able to know for sure if you wanna stick with it after a month. Just ask all the questions you need.

You can get plenty of ideas and support, questions answered at Eight Forums.

Once you customize the Start screen and get accustomed to having a Start Screen that actually starts with Windows, then is toggled when needed using the Windows key, it becomes easy.

Then if you stick with it and get the participation emails from MS you'll have good offers for release including most likely another free copy offer and half price offers.
