Windows 7 winload.exe error 0x0000428

I have installed vista and seven in dual boot.I installed vista with seven being previously.The bootmgr was missing,so I used visual BCD to repair it and then windows 7 disappeared from boot screen.I used Easy BCD to create a new entry for in the boot screen using the drive in which it was installed.Now when i tried to get in I get the following error.

Due to some recent hardware change blah blah blah........................

File:\Windows\System32\winload.exe

Status:0xc0000428

Info:Windows cant verify the digital signature for this file.

They say to use F8,but on pressing F8 I get the same screen.I can only access the seven when I have a bootable seven dvd in my dvd drive.I then again installed seven but the same problem is still there.I tried to use the repair option in seven dvd but it said it had repaired some problems and then restarted without any solution.What should I do?

Give me a detailed yet easy to follow solution...

If you wish to have others assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder. The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
* Briefly describe the problem history and circumstances in the same post. Somebody will attend to your query as soon as possible.

Hi astroboy,

I am the developer of Visual BCD.
The StartUp repair option is just a graphical interface to :
1. Windows Disk Management - for repairing the disk structure
2. bcdboot.exe - for repairing the BCD
3. bootsect.exe - for repairing the MBR and the partition boot sector.

I think maybe you have used the repair BCD option specifying the wrong OS root folder.
BCD repair does not only fix the BCD store it is recreating the whole boot environment ! (whole /boot folder included)

The parameter for the root of the operating system is crucial.

In a dual-boot Vista + 7 the root of Windows 7 should be specified as Windows 7 boot environment is superior.

The "source files" used by bcdboot.exe are taken from hidden system folders of the OS specified.
(I am not sure but maybe winload.exe is also included in the repair process.)

I can only suggest that you try to run repair again and specify the root of Windows 7 as source !

In your case I think some Windows Vista system files have replaced some Windows 7 system files and you ended up in having a non-functional mixture !

If this does not fix the problem I can suggest as next step:

Boot Windows 7 DVD and do an automatic Start-Up repair up to three times as suggested in the forum manuals!

Please come back with the outcome of your actions.

Just a short addition.
Windows 7 boot process goes like this:

1. BIOS loads
2. MasteBootRecord loads
3. PartitionBootRecord of active partition loads
4. \bootmgr (from active partition) uses BCD from \Boot and loads selected/default OS entry
5. winload.exe loads OS (or rest of OS)

The MBR, PBR, bootmgr and winload.exe must be from the same operating system (Windows 7).

All these screenshots are from the vista side.And vista is the Default OS.

And to zigzag3143:I couldnt find the minidump files anywhere.What should I do.

Please tell me exactly what else should I tell you.

Get Easy bcd 2.0, install it on Vista..

Go to Easybcd command console ( useful utilities>click the black box ) and type:

bcdboot g:\windows /s c:

then press enter
