Windows 7 won't boot and Recovery options don't work

I have a Lenovo G560 0679 series laptop, which i believe is a 64 bit system. Few months ago, my comp shown some blue screen and gave me boot up issues. My friend has been able to help me fix it a few times (he said he simply just let start up repair do its own thing). however, this time, he is away and is unable to help me. So I try to do the same thing, I run start up repair, and it says problems can't be solved automatically, I clicked on details, it shows that a problem signature is CorruptFile.

This time, theres no BSOD, but it kept leading me to the Start up recovery page (the one with sys restore, restore system using image etc and command prompt). I tried running safe mode, as well as safe mode with networking, last known good config, ran all the options on system recovery/system restore. It seems like the only option i have left is use the command prompt to fix the problem. I lost the windows installation CD, so some of the commands such as bootrec.exe is in vain. I don't really know what i'm doing any way when I use the command prompt.

As a last resort, I'm willing to reinstall my comp, what do i do so that i can save some files? also is it possible that I download the reinstallation file since I lost the original one?

Please help me out if you can, and let me know if you have any questions or need to know more info.

Any idea which version of Windows 7 is installed on your System?

You can download an ISO of Windows 7 from mydigitallife.info.

Burn it to a disk, install, and activate with your existing 25 character product key.

You need to download the exact same version to match your product key.

Or you can try a restore to factory specifications if you can access the recovery partition---which I assume Lenovo PCs have?

The new install won't have all that stuff Lenovo originally included.

wanchoo, the sticker on my laptop just says windows 7... so...im not too sure. I mnight be able to find out through the command prompt. I'll report that back tomorrow if i find out.

Yes, you can use a USB drive.

Recovery partition is probably accessed by a menu shown when you hit a key during boot. Not sure on Lenovos---might be F11 key?

Back up your data first.

Jacee, I might have thrown it away when I moved last year >.< I threw away the box so the cd might have been in it, I couldnt find it anywhere in my house

First, you have to be able to find it. Then you copy it somewhere else, such as to a DVD or another hard drive or a USB drive.

Include bookmarks and email if you have any.

It's up to you to find it---we don't know where you put your stuff.

You find it by eyesight and copy it with the mouse by highlighting the folder or file and dragging it in Windows Explorer to the flash drive, which should be connected to one of your USB ports.

Your stuff may be somewhere under C:\users\, possibly in C:\users\your-user-name-whatever-it-is.


But you have to confirm that by looking.

how do i do that if the comp won't boot though?
i took my comp to the repair place today, and they said there's 133 bad sectors(they ran a test using ubuntu) and said i need to replace the hard drive. They're gonna charge me about 110 for a new hard drive and installing it for me, lol, i think i'll do this part on my own.
Do i have to reinstall windows after i put in my new hard drive? they said they will charge me another 90 for this part.. jus reinstalling crap.

I would now test the HD using HD maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan followed by Disk Check from the Win7 DVD or System Repair Disk Command Line. Then you'll know if the HD is indeed bad.
