Windows hangs at the flashing _ after booting. I can't run the repair program with the DVD and I suspect its a problem with the EFI partitioning or flagging or missing some boot files in the EFI partition or something.

According to gparted I have:

/dev/sda1 as FAT32 228.00 MB, it is marked as 'boot'
/dev/sda3 as NTFS (which has my windows installation), it is not marked as anything.

Please help.

try setting boot flag onto /dev/sda3:

fdisk /dev/sda3
a (set boot flag)
w (write changes)

I think it's 'a' flag to togle boot flag
also another partitions on the same disk must not be marked as "boot"

but you also may be able to repair installation with installation disk and select "repair my computer" link on welcome screen.

Recovering or Installing Win 7 UEFI (ASUS P8P67)

Hi All,
Here goes...

Insert Windows 7 Pro 64 DVD, boot into advanced BIOS setup. In boot drive options, select UEFI DVD, mine was UEFI TSST etc...

Boot up do an install to your selected hard drive, remember to exlude drives if necessary. This will set up your initial windows.

If you need to do a recovery, your boot drive must be a GPT already partitioned with a boot partition and the OS partition. If it has been toasted somehow, do an initial win install following the above procedure, then go back and reboot the UEFI Win 7 DVD, select repair and go to system restore. It will restore your backup (if you have one) and work!

If this wasn't clear, let me know and I will repost. I just saved you a day and a half.
