So I recently installed win7 ultimate x64 (legitimately, have MSDN account).
I had downloaded the ISO and burned to verbatum media.
Put in a new hard drive for the OS, told BIOS to boot from DVD Drive, and I get the message:
"Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected....."
No matter what I tried I could not get my machine to boot the windows 7 disc. I tried the following:
Burned ISO to a different media type (memorex)
Tried booting with a different DVD drive (IDE instead of SATA)
Moved the SATA connector to a different port.
I stuck in a vista install disc and it booted just fine, so I was thinking either the burn was screwed up or the ISO download file was corrupt.
Then I tried taking my win7 disc and put it into another machine and it booted, so I now know the disc was fine, but my computer didn't like the win7 disc.
I ended up taking my 8gig flash drive, formatting it and loading the iso on that.
My machine then booted and installed win7 from the flash drive just fine.
Im just wondering has anyone out there heard of this or experienced anything similar?
Just FYI this was an asus P5K motherboard, not the newest stuff but hardly old, maybe 2 years? I couldnt understand it!
