Hi,

I recently tried to install Windows 7 Ultimate on to a separate IDE Hard Drive but I have failed. I unplugged everything but just my DVD Drive and Hard Drive from the motherboard (the DVD Drive is connected to the Hard Drive through a IDE Cable to the motherboard).

I pressed F12 to boot from the DVD Drive and started the installation. Everything was going fine with the installation, I got to where it says preparing your pc for first use, I get to a "Welcome" screen, then it says "Shutting Down" immediately after. The pc reboots but fails to load up Windows 7 at all, it just reboots in a loop with nothing. I've tried reinstalling again and again and I cant get past this.

Anybody got any ideas as to why this is happening?

Try booting into Safe Mode to update your display driver.

Check for any other drivers in error in Device Manager.

Check also the Event Viewer or Diagnostics>Performance log for logged errors revealing the cause of shutdown.

Hi - i am having the same problem as Alzdaman - does anyone have a solution - i have removed all devices - but alas. I am sure my bios needs to be updated but i dont have a floppy drive - i will try and update bios and see if that works.
BTW - i ran upgrade from Vista - so it should at least give me the option of dual boot option - shouldnt it?

Try booting from DVD to Custom install.

I am up and running - i created a bootable USB and booted up from that - i removed the USB flash drive once i was in Win 7 and then restarted - it booted straight up and into Win 7 - i have checked device manager and all seems to be fine - holding thumbs cos i just ran all the updates and installed software etc

Hope this helps you.:D

I should have said in my original message that my mobo has only 1 IDE port on it so I have an IDE card that the HD I was trying to install 7 onto is plugged into. I think the IDE card is what is causing me problems. I might try the bootable usb option and see how that goes.
