Hi all;
Well last night I did a silly thing and installed XP on a new partition of my hard drive.
Installation went fine and everything but now I can't get Win7 to boot because I've overwrote the um... boot thing.
I don't have an installation disc as Win7 Home Premium was on my laptop out-of-the-box. I also didn't make a repair disc like an idiot.
Is there any way I can fix this or am I going to have to do a fresh install of Win7?
Any help appreciated!

I had the EXACT same problem a couple weeks ago only it was with Ubuntu 10.04. I reinstalled it over Windows 7. What I did was delete the Ubuntu partitions, then I reinstalled Windows 7 (using the disk). That worked quite well for me.

If you can't use your current boot, you might have to get a new boot-chip from your manufacturer =/

If you dont have some media how are you going to make a fresh install? You can download win 7 from MS.

Clean install is always the best ides. If there isnt data on the current installation the you cant live without I would clean install

Hm well I guess it looks like a clean install then haha, aww.
At least I can still get access to my old documents and back them up.
Any other ideas before I reinstall?
EDIT: I can use my Dad's install disc but that's for Ultimate, not Home Premium :/

Hi CA5 -

This is to be expected. XP took over the System MBR and now Win7 needs to be added back to the bootmanager using Method Two shown here: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/8057-dual-boot-installation-windows-7-xp.html

Use EasyBCD 2.0 beta after doing quick forum registration here: EasyBCD 2.0 Beta Builds - The NeoSmart Forums

Note that EasyBCD in XP requires first installing Net Framework 2.0.

In the rare case where Easy wont work from XP, you'll need to startup Win7 using the Repair CD. First mark Win7 active from the CD command line, then click through to Recovery Tools list to run Startup Repair up to 3 times. When 7 starts, install EasyBCD to Add XP.

gregrocker;
Thanks for the reply! Very helpful :).
Could you give me a brief run-through about EasyBCD please?
What does it do and how does it work?
Thanks again! :)
