Hi,

About 4 months ago I had vista on my computer. I had problems with the OS and dicided to whipe my hard drive clean. Now, when I try to Install windows 7 (even tried Vista and XP) it will freeze the installation process. I was curious enough and tried Linux. It installed with out freezing or any problems. Would anyone know why this is happening?

Thank you!

hello,
Thank you for responding! Right now my computer has been in Staples repair depot for the past week. They ran a Diagnostic and found nothing wrong with my hardware. I showed them this link you sent me and they tried to fix the issue with the suggestions showed. It will still freeze at random % when it's installing. The main thing that bothers me is that Linux works fine with no issue. Obviously i don't want Linux and would much rather have Windows 7. Would this be an issue with Windows?

thank you!

Hello dodji Welcome to the Se7en Forums!

By the description of the problems you are seeing with Windows in generall regardless of XP, Vista, or 7 you may have bad ram! That would explain the problems seen with Vista prior to trying a clean install ot 7 as well. Even if you only ran with one dimm a bad dimm will see installations lock as well as other problems with Windows.

With Linux the requirements for memory are far less where it is simply squeezing by especially if you working with a smaller distro like ubuntu. Memtest for stress testing the memory and a WD diagnostics tool from their support site would be a few things to try on your own.
