Windows 7 won't recognize IDE Hard drive & DVD drive

I recently installed windows 7 home premium 64 bit, previous OS was Vista home premium 32 bit. My desktop is an HP pavilion d4650y.

I have the OS loaded on my main HD which is a SATA.

HD & DVD drive worked perfectly before on vista. I tested both devices on another pc with XP and they work fine. I've triple checked the connections but still the devices are not recognized by win7. I've also tried renaming the HD & changing the drive letter, but still no luck.

Both drives are connected to a PCI E card, and are set to cable select, on separate cables.

In the BIOS both drives show up.

In disk management they do not show up at all.

My HD is a western digital 250 gb EIDE, and the DVD drive is a IDE Pioneer DVD burner (secondary disc drive).

Any help would be appreciated.

What drivers did you install? Did you install the necessary drivers for the PCIe card?

that's exactly what i needed to do, forgot to get the new PCIe driver. thanks!

I have a new issue now, trying to install a third IDE HD (new, not formatted), and when its plugged in windows wont boot, after BIOS screen it just goes to a black screen with a blinking dash.

the third IDE HD is on the same IDE cable as the second IDE drive. My main drive is a SATA, which windows boots from. I have the second IDE hard set to cable select, and the third "new' IDE drive set to slave. Ive checked the boot order and the SATA drive is 0, the second drive is 1, and the third new drive is 2.

I am i missing something? Do i have the IDE drive setup wrong? Why wont windows boot when the new IDE drive is plugged in?

There is an interesting MS Kb article here. Have a look and see what you think about AHCI mode. Also there is a big button for MS Fixit utility, which can cure all manner of ills. I recommend running that if nothing else.

I dont think this applies. My Sata drive is set to RAID. I never get any error message of any kind.

Could it be a power issue, as I said before when I unplug the new HD windows boots, I tried also just running my SATA drive with the new HD only, and unplugging my 2nd EIDE drive, and it boots windows.

My Power supply is 300 W, might be 350W max, and I'm running two DVD burners, + 2 HD drives (both 250 GB each, one SATA one EIDE) when I try the new EIDE HD which is a 350 gb, with every thing else hooked up, windows wont boot. no error message is ever given.

I'm not sure how much power each HD requires, i didn't see it labeled on the HD's.
