yesterday when I tried to start it up, I got a message
stating:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Windows Error Recovery
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

You have two options:

Launch Startup Repair (Recommended)
Launch Windows Normally

When I try either option it takes FOREVER, and I never get back into
Windows 7. With the first option it just brings up a progress
status bar like it is doing something, then the screen goes blank
(perhaps a timeout on the laptop).

For the second option it just
brings up the progress status bar, and it seems like it is doing
something....but after hours it is still showing that progress bar.

Can anyone tell me what's wrong?
Can this be a possible reason : Original configuration of Dell N4010 is 2GB RAM, i installed additional 1GB RAM
and my laptop does freezes/stops responding when i use heavy application like playing video/Audio. even while opening a Hard drive it freezes up for a while but this happens once in a while.

Thanks

Have you tried taking out the additional ram you put in?

Yes I did, the start up problem is resolved,but my PC still freezes doing simple task like opening multiple browsers/windows/files. While playing music it hangs up and plays in pits and pieces.

Will removing the additional 1GB RAM cause some kind of slowdown?:(

But don't we have laptops with 2 + 1 GB RAM?

Seeing as how you are running 64 bit windows, yes more RAM is recommended, but I believe that your 1GB module that you put in is faulty or incompatible. Did you buy it recently?

Hi,
Yes i bought it few days back.
I ran a self diagnostic test while booting and it gave me error 0142, for which i searched on the internet and found that the HDD is corrupted/faulty.

So i guess i will be given a new HDD by DELL as my Lappie is still under warranty.

Thanks a lot for the help.

Regards,
Rohan

Dell is good with the hard drive bit. They just send you a new one, I believe with windows already on it and you put it in.
