Windows 7 Won't Start

Hello

Im trying to start my laptop, its around 1 year old.

Every time I start it, it runs the "Startup Repair", and ive tried to unplug the sd card that i have readyboost on, and everything.

Once, I got the log from it and found "Root Cause" which was something like
CI.dll missing or corrupt. Also it says that my operating system is located on D:\ not C:\, but ive never had a D drive?

Using the command proport, using CD and DIR, it says the C drive is a system reserver, and DIR on the D drive, i get all my files?

When I set it to run it, it will run for hours without anything happening.

I've got the system recovery protocol up, where i can choose to run the startup repair, system restore, an command proport ect ect. I've tried to run the system restore, and got the error:
System Restore Failed to extract the original copy of the directory from the restore point.
Source: %systemroot%\registration
Destination: ComPlusStaging

Its a Sony Vaio running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

Boot the Win7 DVD or System Repair Disc - Create, accept any offered repair. IF it fails, boot back in to run Startup Repair repeatedly from System Recovery Options.

Report back if Win7 fails to show an installation to repair for special steps.

System Restore should be automated in Startup Repair, but if it fails to offer it and Repairs fail, then try running it from System Recovery Options

You can copy out your files using DVD or Repair CD: Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console

As a last resort make sure System Reserved is marked Active, then run Startup Repair up to 3 separate times with reboots. Partition - Mark as Active

You can get a graphic picture of your partitioning, see which is marked Active, and mark Active if necessary using free Partition Wizard bootable CD.

If it fails after three Startup Repair attempts with SysReserved marked Active, try marking Win7 partition itself Active then run the REpairs again.

If all fails, you'll need to run factory Recovery partiition (preferred) or disks (use as backup) if you have factory preinstalled Win7, or find a Win7 installer for your version to clean reinstall: Reinstalling Windows 7

Problem, i dont have the windows 7 disk. It was pre-installed on my laptop.

Also a mistake on my side Carolyn's first suggestion worked, after the system repair had run through, but now it gives me a BSOD with the error code 0xD1

Thhe BSOD comes up right after login

Can you boot into Safe Mode to post up the bugcheck report to our Crashes forum? Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions - Windows 7 Forums You can also check the Device Manager for any drivers that might be in error and need roll back, updating or Uninstall.

If you can't get into Safe Mode, try Last Known Good COnfiguration from F8 Advanced Boot Options, see if there is a Repair console on the options list to boot into to run Startup Repair and then System Restore if necessary. If not burn the Repair CD linked above to do so.

Do you have a Factory Recovery partition you can run, or did you make the Recovery Disks yet? If you can copy out your files using the method provided, you can try running Factory Recovery.

Wornt let me boot in safe mode

Tried that, no luck

Have no disk, but there is a Recovery partition, and there should be a way for me to run it. The problem is that i have some files i would like to have saved? Is there any way to do this using a usb and the dos prompt you get in the "system recovery options"?

Also got the bsod with stop code 0x7B

You should have made a System Repair Disk by now from the link I provided as most of the steps given require it. System Repair Disc - Create

If you are for some reason unable to burn a Repair Disk, try using the System Recovery Options if they are on the F8 Advanced Boot Options to run through all of the repair steps given - but don't just ignore them as you must do the work to get it fixed.

I also gave you the method to copy out your files using the Repair Disk.

The 7b error is inacessible boot device. Does your HD show in BIOS, and does the installation show up in Repair console when you boot into Repair Disk?

Next step would be to test your HD using maker's diagnostics/repair CD extended scan: HD Diagnostic

You can run Sony Vaio factory recovery by holding down the Alt + F10 keys at boot.

When trying to run the System Repair Disk, it says "Missing operating system"
Also, ive run over all the options in the system recovery, multiple times

Also, in the Vaio Recovery Center, it alllows me to rescure data, plus running a Hardware Diagnotis.

Ill post results here when its finished.

I would verify my files have been backed up on the drive you designate first before running recovery.

Using free Partition Wizard bootable CD, see if you can Recover the Win7 partition with it's Recovery Partition Wizard. Partition Wizard

See which partition is marked Active. It should be the 100mb System Reserved (preferred) or Win7 partition itself. If not, mark SysReserved Active first, try to run Repairs again. If this fails or you have no System Reserved partition, mark the Win7 partition itself Active and try the 3 repairs.

Can you get to the Load Drivers mini-explorer link on Repair CD to Copy & Paste your files in Windows Recovery Console ?

You can also recover files using this freeware: Paragon rescue disk; change drive letter; recover data

Explore the Win7 partition to see if your files are there.

Allright im a little more relaxed now. The hardware test showed that nothing is damaged.

Also the vaio recovery center has an option to restore the C: drive, so what im gonna try to do, is create a partion and get my files there using the DOS console, in system recovery.

If you think you have the same problem, here is how i soloved it...

using Partition Wizard bootable verison (thanks gregrocker) i created a partition.
Then using the avaible dos prompt from the system recovery options to move my documents and files ect ect, to the partition.

then using a pre-installed software on my vaio accessable just before boot, under the vaio logo (clicking alt + f10) and restored the C drive.

Then, when my computer got back up, i took the files from my backup partition and put them back on my C drive.
