Hi there I am having an issue with my MINI, it will not update says that Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer. I have tried the instructions that you provided by doing the sfc /scannow it did not detect anything and after rebooting still it will not update. Do you have anymore suggestions? Thanks for your help. I have 3 other laptops and 2 home computers that are not having this issue. Thanks again

Hey there! Did you try running the Windows Update service from services? If not, go to Start - Control Panel - System and Security - Administrative Tools - Services. After that, look for the 'Windows Update' service and start the service. Be sure to be logged in as an administrator.

I had the same problem which occurred after reinstalling windows 7 Home Premium x64 on a new hard drive. The newer hard drives require a driver update for the Intel Rapid Storage Technology, which you can download directly from Intel here: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...sion=Windows 7 (64-bit)*&DownloadType=Drivers
Once you install the new driver, reboot and windows update and windows defender will work again.

I had this problem yesterday after restoring a Win 7 image. Services showed the "Windows Update" service was running, but Windows Update refused to function and kept telling me to re-boot.

I went to Control Panel, searched for "troubleshooter", and ran the "Fix problems with Windows Update" under System and Security. Then I re-booted and problem was solved.
