Solved Windows 7 x64 and localhost to web

hey guys, I'm newbie in this forum!

I using Windows 7 Home Pre x64 and XAMPP in my computer, also I sharing my website from my personal computer: Kaan Kölköy - Ana Sayfa ...

So I sharing my website on a free domain but i want buy a domain, but I have some questions.

1 - Can I connect my computer to my domain??? and how? It's mean can I install a DNS server to my Windows 7?
2 - If I can't install any dns server to my windows 7, can I use as a host os like centos or windows server which installed to virtual pc?? It's mean I open my virtual os and my website will be activate...

Hi, It's quite possible to serve a website from a Windows 7 computer on a home connection, but you'll run into a couple of issues.

First of all, you don't need a DNS server of yours at all for this. Your ISP or the domain registering authority from whom you buy the domain from will provide any means to have DNS on your domain pointing to your computer without you doing anything for that other that buy the domain itself. The DNS server of Windows 2008 (or any third party you may install) are meant to local networks domains more than serving internet requests.

But from what I can see, you have a much bigger problem: dynamic IP. When you buy a domain you tell the seller the IP you want to point it to. But if your IP changes the domain is no longer valid. The dynamic/fixed IP is provided by your ISP and most home connections use a cheap dynamic one. The no-ip.org domain you're using right now works because of the program you install on your computer that tells their servers what your IP is from time to time and updates their DNSs. By the way, most home ISPs don't like their users from serving websites from the connections and the terms many times forbidden that unless you buy a "business" class connection (with fixed IP).

I just tried out of curiosity to open your site and wasn't able to. Remember that you need the following for it to work to the outside world:
- Your computer permanently turned on with the Apache server working 24/7.
- Your computer must have a static local IP (in the network settings).
- Port 80 on your modem / router must be forwarded to that local IP.
- Your ISP must allow external connections from the outside world, which is not always the case. Ask them about a routeable IP address.

Personally if it were for me, at least to start, I would stay with the no-ip.org domain because of the static external IP issue. If latter want a real domain you can look after upgrading your internet connection, or seek a normal web hosting or server housing. It's possible to do it entirely from home but not easy.

1 - My ISP is allow to static IP for a little money
2 - My computer is open for 7/24 and running Apache, MySQL and PHP services

so I think I can a domain... but how can i put it to my Windows 7? Do I must install a server OS?

No no, you don't need a server specific OS for that, Windows 7 can still act as a web server. The domain name doesn't request anything from your computer.

When you buy it, the seller will need to know your IP, and the only thing he does is to setup DNSs on somewhere so that, when someone types it, it points to that IP, that should be your home. That's the reason you need a fixed IP, you should really pay that little extra money if you want a domain pointing to you.

With that, you just setup your router to forward port 80 to that PC and you're done, apache will start serving webpages though your domain, there is no need for a specific OS configuration.
