Hello there!

I'm glad I found this forum. Two days ago I installed Windows 7 Ultimate(x64) on drive D partition in my Vista laptop. Vista is on drive C. Everything is ok except that when I boot into Windows 7, the drive letter is changed to C and Vista to D.But everything seems perfectly fine. Also when I boot into Vista the drive again turns to C and Windows 7 to D. What seems to be the problem?Any ideas please? I tried to change the drive letters to no avail.

regards,

Hello jickis31 Welcome to the Seven Forums!

There is no problem being seen with the drive letters. Once you boot into one version in a dual boot setup you should be seeing the other version as D or another preferred drive letter leaving D reserved for the optical drive. You want the Windows you are booted into at the time to be seeing itself as C for sure! :D

For having Vista seen as E, F, G, or another letter a quick trip into the Windows 7 Disk Management tool and right clicking on the Vista volume there allows you to reassign a different drive letter of choice. Likewise while booted into Vista you can do the same for the 7 primary in the Vista DM. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/82994-drive-letter-add-change-remove-windows-7-a.html

Hey there,

Thank you for all your replies. Yes, I'm not having any problems with the change of drive letters on Windows 7/Vista boot ups. So I guess I leave it that way. Thanks everyone!

regards,

jickis31
