I recently built a computer and completed it, and when I go to install 7, I can get all the way to where you select the drive or partition you want to install to, and it frezes up completely, and the little mouse cursor thing stops swirling around, and the system locks up. Any advice?

What to try:
Disconnect all unnecessary hardware from the system. This includes hard drives, video cards, USB devices, and expansion cards. Remove all but one stick of RAM.

Use the VGA output on your card if possible.

These problems can also be caused by bad RAM. Run a memory diagnostic overnight, using Memest86 or something similar.

If nothing above works, you may have bad installation media. What condition is the disc in? Verify your copy of Windows came from a reputable source. Try burning a new DVD, using the slowest speed possible

Please update your System Specs as they are confused with the new build.

Is the BIOS updated with the latest version?

Is the SATA controller set to AHCI? Try that first, then IDE.

Try clearing the CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

Try removing all but 2 gb of RAM, unplug all peripherals.

Where did you get the DVD? How was it burned if so? Use ImgBurn at 4x with Verify, or Verify your DVD there.

Do you have a flash stick to try boot install? http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2432-usb-windows-7-installation-key-drive-create.html

i will post the specs as soon as possible... i just built this computer today and am still trying the previous methods, so i will post the new specs.

Is the hard drive new or did you wipe it with something?

If Windows 7 can't access it, which it appears it is having problems with, is it a RAID setup? Do you have it connected to the right SATA connector? Is the connection good, sometimes the connectors are not completely in.

Does the drive show up in the bios? Is there a controller you need to turn on in the bios, such as SATA? New motherboards sometimes have two SATA controllers, one for the internal and one for external or RAID.

Do you have the drive set for IDE or AHCI? Do not use RAID unless you know for sure that is what you want.

Do you use a SATA DVD and what connector is it on?

I haven't seen this before, so perhaps the other suggestion will help.

So it freezes after you select the drive to install. Have you tried using the disk options button and partitioning and formatting it first?

I think it is best to put the primary hard drive on SATA 0, but do not know if this is really required. I would put the hard drives in lower number SATA connector than the DVD.

Enter BIOS setup using key given on first bootup screen. Check version to compare with latest BIOS update on mobo Support Downloads page.

Then check your SATA controller setting near where the HD's are listed.
