Windows 7 x64 Freezing Randomly

My computer has been "randomly" freezing for the last week and a half.

My system specs are attached in my profile.

Sometimes it will freeze while I'm working. The app I'm working in will freeze, the keyboard freezes, but the mouse remains active. Ctrl-alt-del doesn't work. The only path forward at that point is to hit the reboot button on the case. This is happening multiple times per day although with varying frequency.

Sometimes it freezes while I'm away. When this happens the monitor wakes up and I see the normal logon screen background, but without the place to logon.

I can ping the PC while it's frozen.

No minidump is generated and I can't find much in the event logs.

I've run 7 passes of Memtest86+ and all have passed.

I last installed the OS 6-9 months ago.

I've attached the BSOD documentation per the forum guidelines.

Though these are all really old I suspect the same problem still exists and it is Related to mv91xx.sys magni Windows Driver from Marvell Semiconductor, Inc.

ALSO

1-ASACPI.SYS a major cause of BSOD's in the 2005 rev.

The pre 2009 version of this driver is a known BSOD cause.

Scroll down to the Utilities category, then scroll down to the "ATK0110 driver for WindowsXP/Vista/Windows 7 32&64-bit" (it's about the 12th item down).
Download and install it.
Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers to check and make sure that the ASACPI.sys file is date stamped from 2009 or 2010 (NOT 2005).



I would re-install it and all the other old drivers listed below (form as far back as 2004)

How To Find Drivers:

- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.

I've updated all the drivers I could. If my system remains "unfrozen" for a couple of days, I'll close this thread.

Frozen again! Still freezing with no BSOD or minidump.

I've posted a new BSOD file.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. This issue has sucked way too many hours from my life already!

Problem Solved

After weeks of trouble shooting I uninstalled and reinstalled two different applications.

My computer has been running without freezing for several days now.

This thread can be closed.

Well ... I only thought I had fixed the problem!



My PC started freezing again, so I:

• Disabled all startup programs and all non-MS services and it still froze
• I ran Memtest again for 8+ passes with no errors
• Ran Hot CPU Tester Pro 4 with no errors
• I replaced the power supply
• In the last 3 days I've gotten 2 BSODs that don't appear to be related

Does anyone have any ideas? I'm running out of things to troubleshoot.

I have a backup I can revert to from before the problems started, but I'm afraid I will just recreate the problem by reinstalling SW and/or drivers that have been applied since the backup.

Can anyone help?
