Windows 7 x64 not detecting any of my pci cards in the slots.

I've been browsing this website for a while and decided to finally create an account considering I'm having a huge dilemma with my recently purchased motherboard.

So anyways.
I'm trying to get my pci graphics card to work on my motherboard. AM2NF6G-VSTA motherboard. I did a clean install of windows 7 x64 a few days ago and after the installation I plugged my pci graphics card (Note:it's pci, not pci-e) I went to the bios and switched the video to be from my pci and not the onboard one. After I rebooted and connected teh vga cable from my graphics card to my screen. It loaded. I tried installing the drivers for my graphics card but it kept throwing me a "No compatible graphics card detected" I decide to update the bios of the motherboard to the latest ones they have. Afterwards, I got the update from the website.

After trying all of that, the computer still couldn't detect it. In the device manager I don't see a 'display adapters" I look through the info of the graphics card and it is blank. I check and notice the vgasave had a conflict with the pci-to-pci bridge so I disable the pci bridge and the conflict was fixed.

The card still wouldn't be detected. I then install windows xp x32 and after the installation, the graphics card is read and I'm able to install the drivers for it perfectly without any problems. So I know the graphics card isn't the problem. I wouldn't mind using windows xp, but I have 8gb of ram and on xp only 4 is read. I do a clean install of windows 7 to get the same issue. The graphics card isn't being read.

So I then decide to test another pci card, a wireless pci card. I insert it and notice that after booting up the computer, windows 7 cannot detect the pci card in the slot. I then try a few simple cards, phone modems. None of them get detected by the computer at all.

I came to the conclusion that my windows 7 is not detecting pci slots. The slots work perfectly considering I'm able to install windows xp onto the computer and have the graphics card / phone modems load perfectly. Yet when I load the graphics cards or any other pci cards into the pci slots, while running windows 7, they don't bother getting detected. What could the problem be?

I've updated the drivers from the official website and have gotten the latest bios but the computer is still not detecting anything from my pci slots. Is there something i'm not installing need to mess with? The website has drivers for vista / 7 64bit so I know that's not the issue. But I'll be trying to install windows 7 32 bit and seeing if my graphics card and the pci slots work. If they don't work, it must have something to do with windows 7 itself. if they do work, it has something to do with the 64 bit of windows 7 that isn't wanting to detect my pci slots.

Any help would be appreciated.

Did you install the chipset driver for your mother board?

My chipset is NVIDIA® GeForce 6100 / nForce 405 Chipset. But isn't that for a vga ? Wouldn't installing it just make the onboard vga work? Or is it another chipset you're talking about?

And I noticed the my system specs. I'm at work, so I couldn't fill that out. I"ll be doing it as soon as I get home.

There are no Windows 7 drivers for that board so you would have to use Vista X64 drivers. They are available here: ASRock > Products > Motherboard > AM2NF6G-VSTA > Download

I don't see any chipset drivers at all which is very surprising. If you installed ther HDRM card on the mother board then you could try the HDMR driver. Also worth trying the other drivers one at a time to see what happens.


Before doing that though, have you done a Windows Update and let it update any hardware it wants to?

I tried everything from the website. I tried installing all the drivers and was not successful. After a while I kind of just gave up and reverted back to my windows xp. This time with the x64. I'm pretty fine with that. Thanks for the help though guys .

Install PCI drivers before MB chipset drivers

Hi,
I ran to same problem after installing Win7 Enterprise 32bit at work, first on a HP Z420 workstation and then on Fujitsu celsius w5xx. Windows simply didn't detect any PCI cards . However I did notice that immediately after installing the win, prior to installing any onboard drivers (especially chipset drivers), windows did detect the pci card as unknown device. So I reinstalled windows once again and then I first installed the PCI card drivers. After that everything worked smootly - windows didn't lost the PCI card even after installing all the other drivers (ethernet, chipset, USB3 etc.). Hopefully this will work for others as well.
