ok so regularly in windows 7, if u delete the ei.cfg file inside the sources folder on the root of the disc, when u press install windows, it will allow u to pik any version except enterprise.

however my x64 windows 7 disc does not have that file and only installs ultimate...

any suggestions?

THANKS

Use ultimate if you have a license for it. did you download that from MS or buy it from them?

Which version do you have a key for? Is it a retail key or OEM? Builders OEM or installed by manufacturer? Full version or Upgrade?

What retail version do you have the key for?

Technet versions have ei.cfg file in Sources folder, as does RTM 7600.

It must be a pre-hacked version. Get the RTM.

well, does that mean that i shud go download a pirated version then go and then use the proper key?

No, you have a key and don't need a pirate version since that would be illegally hacktivated.

But IMO pulling an untouched 7600 installer with no hacktivation off of the internet is not illegal if you have a legal key to use with it. Just scan it heavily with AV and Spybot before burning.

The first choice would still be to borrow a friend's Win7 DVD.

you can also check , instead of deleting ei.cfg or looking for it if you have any other versions than ultimate in the first place:

in cmd.exe type dism /get-WimInfo drive:\path_to_root\sources\install.wim
will you give you information about the images inside it. So if it only has ultimate, you are wasting time trying to find ei.cfg etc.
