ill power off, plug them both in....boot from DVD, try the repair....

and restart....do i keep the DVD in the drive when I restart??

Simply set the drive to be the last to boot, in the BIOS.

Just make sure the Windows 7 drive is first, anyway.

Sure, if you want. Personally, I have my hard drive set to be the first, because I often leave discs in my drive, and hate it when they automatically boot up.

It's just a matter of preference though. If the only time you have a bootable CD in the drive at bootup is when you want to boot from the CD, leave that to be the first.

sweet....i'm so hesitant to plug that other HDD in.....now that Windows 7 boots alright from this HDD


is there ANY way that plugging the other in, making sure it boots after the W7 HDD, can negatively affect my PC?

I agree with JK, I have my HD set to boot first. If I run into trouble and need to boot from a CD, it is a simple matter to change it.

I suppose the extra drive connected uses more power, and may slow down boot times a little, but there is no danger.

This is not a dangerous situation you are in. If anything goes wrong, just change the setting back again. Not like flashing a BIOS...
