I need to buy a new computer and don't know anything about 7. Will Windows 7 Home Premium have the SSI server or do I need to step up to the Professional?

If by any chance you want a SSH server, then the answer is no, Windows 7 does not include one, but it's easy to install, the free one is included in the Cygwin package. The same package contains the Apache server as well, in case you did not make a typo in your question.

I have used the Apache server for years. Love it, easy to conf. Use it with Windows and Linux (and at one time Solaris).

First thanks for the replies.

I did make a typo I meant IIS

I like to be able to view my site on the computer and with the vista I was not able to make it work it had something to do with the 64 bit. Now that I am buying a new computer I want to make sure that I am able to use the server this time.

Lemur, I have heard people talk about the apache but have never looked into it is there a link I could go to and get started using apache?

Thanks for the help, I am not a professional web builder just a hobby and I have a window cleaning business so I built a web site for it with dreamweaver 8.

Another thing you might want to try is WampServer.

Which is Apache, plus php and mysql for Windows. This comes from LAMP, which is identical, except for Linux. Php installation is very easy. Mysql does ask questions that require some advanced knowledge or understanding.

Yes it has IIS server, the easiest way to set it up is with Microsofts Web platform tool - Download the Microsoft Web Platform
