But seriously, Jambooger, I'd like to know how you can come to such a conclusion that Windows 7 is for dummies. Does it not improve overall productivity? Is file management not easier than ever? What about stability and performance? It's easier to transition from XP to 7 than it was was XP to Vista (or from Win9x to XP).

As for wanting XP with greater memory capacity, you're out of luck. ANY 32-bit operatiing system (with the exception of server OSes that support PAE) is limited to a maximum address space of 4GB, but in practice only offer from 3GB to 3.5GB. If you want access to more than 4GB, then you need to switch over to a 64-bit operating system, in which case I'm taking bets how quickly you'll run into compatibility problems with Windows XP Professional x64, arguably the absolute worst implementation of x64 ever because of lack of driver support.

Give yourself at least a little bit of credit here, and give Windows 7 a chance, After even a few hours of discovering the new features, you'll quickly realize that it is the most spectacular version of Windows ever to come out of Redmond for all classes of users, from complete noobs to technophiles.

Please tell me how to get XP pro to see the 6gb my W7 install is currently using?
PLease can you find all the missing drivers for 64bit XP, that my 64bit W7 had no issues with?

I spent ages tweaking XP to get it to what I needed, including PAE, but W7 does it straight out of the box. Now that's the kind of dumbing down I like.

You can still spend hours customizing it if you want, so "techno freaks" like you can still have your fun, but the rest of us are happy that it works.

Ok, ok guys, lol. I know you all love 7. I agree the OS platform is a darn good stable system. I just hate that they have taken quite a few user interfaces away. I like to set things the way I want them and not the way MS wants them. I want to put my shortcuts back on the start menu,, cant, I want to be able to drag and drop my files the way I want, not auto arrange the way MS wants. The new librarys are stupid. Not knowing about them I accidently deleted thousands of files. Had to pay for recovery software and spend countless hours retrieving them. Yea, that put a bad taste in my mouth from the beginning. Oh well, maybe with some service packs MS will hear some of us and put some of the bells and whistles back.

Hmmm, maybe 7 should come in a geek version. No GUI, only a command line. Like DOS, but in 2010.

You should read and research first, for an example, you can find a lot of interesting tutorials around here, like this one: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/296-start-menu-all-programs-add-delete-shortcuts.html
about librairies, you would like to have like 4 or more shortcuts hanging somewhere on desktop or start menu, or just one, that with one click will open for you your music, movies, documents or whatever? This kind of threads are getting boring, something is new, we are not used on it,and of course, it sucks, yea, yea...YOU made a mistake and delete thousands of files, not your OS you now, for everything else that is bothering you: Tutorials - Windows 7 Forums

I did read that a while back. I didnt want to try it then. I just gave it a go. I love it :D I can put any File, Folder or Internet Shortcut in there, Woo HOO! Thank you very much for bringing it back to my attention. Thanks to Ivo for giving us an option that should have been inherent in Win 7. I am hoping that more people much smarter than I will help write programs to make Win 7 more functional.
