Has anybody else noticed that this build is slower than 7077 and 7077 was slower than 7068?

I keep getting windows locking up and crashing, which is strange.

I installed Nvidia's Windows 7 drivers, choosing not to restart my computer as I was reading a website and about 5 minutes later i got a blue screen.

Also when i went to install my M-Audio sound drivers (I've been using Windows Vista x64 drivers just fine in the previous builds) in this one it told me my operating system wasn't supported. It did work, however, running it in Vista SP1 compatibility mode and as i'm not actually running the OS it's intended for i can't really complain. They work just fine now anyway.

Anybody else ran into anything like this?

Oh and of coarse, it was a clean install.

Mine seems to run faster than the 7000 build. I never bothered to try the other builds but 7100 seems solid.

Haven't noticed any slowdown. No crashes either.

How did you install it?

Just installed it with the disk, formatted the hard drive and ran it all properly.

Burned the disk ultra slow too, which i normally can't be assed to do.

Strange **** man, it's actually calmed down a bit now, hope it'll stay this way.

Hey "dook"
How's it going so far??

I am currently doing a full install of 4 systems on a new box I just finished building (MoBo=Gigabyte 3100 series{older design, but new} Intel C2Duo 6450=2.13Ghs, 4Gig mem, 2 500G Hdds, nVidia 7200 GS and Intel 31{on MoBo} with 3 monitors), I have installed WinXP sp3 (x86) and Win XP sp2 (x64) and Win 7-7100 x86, all on the same drive (different partitions) and am currently installing the Win 7-7100 x64 on another partition.

What I have noticed in the install and operations so far, by log files and background monitoring, using a serial port to another computer, is the driver issues. a lot more drivers are installed and examined by the Win 7-7100 OS during Install. As for the slow operation, It has a lot to do with your Service settings. Primarialy with your network settings. I always disable HomeGroup controls and settings, which increases my system speed, cause I have many computers that are not Win 7.

edit:
I just finished the full install and made my regular settings, during boot up Win 7 x64 is about 20 sec's faster than 7077 and 7068.
Still testing, will let you know of any other changes.

faster with each release

I habitually re-format before I do a clean instal with each new release. It can be a bit of a hassle but not having DLL conflicts, Blue Screens and freezing is worth it. On build 7057 I failed to do a clean install and it caused lot's of problems. I had blue screens and freezing IE8. I upped my memory to 8GB from 4 and it made a huge difference too.

The Wheel is turning and it can't slow down!

Until Nvidia updates the drivers on their site, you're best off using the in-box / WU drivers.

There are Windows 7 Drivers on there and without them (I don't know abouit this build because i didn't try, but in the previous builds) you couldn't run open GL.

I've left my PC today for about 6 hours and come back to another shutdown. The computer was actually turned off. I'm thinking it might be to do with that sleep bug that used to be on there.

I'm gonna go turn it to high performance mode and see if that does anything.

Just to add a data point to the discussion. I just received a new laptop, onto which I installed 7068 x64 and 7700 x64 as an upgrade. Laptop specs at the end of the post. I noticed a speed up from 7068 to 7077, but 7077 seemed somewhat more unstable. I kept getting explorer error, where a notification would pop-up telling me that explorer had quit and was restarting.

I did a clean install of 7100 x64, and have had no problems. It is as fast as 7077, but no stability problems as of the install, which was Friday night PDT.

The Laptop is a MPC Micron T2500

Processor - T9300 (2.5 gHz) Core 2.
Chipset - Intel PM965
Memory - 4 GB DDR2-800
Video - nVidia 8600M GS - 256 MB

We'll see how it goes.

But the drivers Nvidia has up are targetted at the Windows 7 Beta build. I'm sure they'll release some updated for the RC soon enough, but for now the WU version is likely your best bet. Either that, or use the Vista driver.

It's running fine now, it just bluescreened after the install.

Whether that's what's crashing the PC also is another question, but i've only come back to it when it's shut down, so i'm thinking that it's the sleep function.

No crashes, no freezes, no slowdowns and no problems to report here. Everything is running really sweet and it get's more responsive as the builds go by. Overall an absolutely awesome operating system!

I actually use the 185 nvidia drivers but only for the reason of two games not being able to play. Nfs undercover and pro street do not play with the official 181 drivers and all my other games do. I tried the 185's and hey presto all games working spot on. WEI stays the same. Upon installing the 185 driver they are recognized as windows 7 so maybe nvidia have done some tinkering with them.
