The Windows Fundamentals Performance Test Team is look for a software design engineer who can help us do just that – make future releases of Windows faster, smaller, and more responsive than Windows 7. OS Fundamentals, and specifically performance were a major area of focus during Windows 7 and will be just as important if not more so, during the development of the next version(s).
We have built a mature performance testing infrastructure to analyze the behavior of the operating system under different tests and workloads, and detect performance bugs, and opportunities to improve performance. And now, we want to take that to the next level. Our role as a team is two-fold in that we are not only improving and enhancing our current infrastructure and test coverage, but we also provide technical leadership and guidance to partner teams to help them improve the performance testing and analysis of their own individual components. We are looking for an SDET that excel in both of those areas.

Ditto. I used XP from 2001 till late 2009. I love Windows 7 and I don't want a new OS till 2013 or so. Let me have fun with this version.......

Just fix the few odds and ends in Win7. Forget about a Win 8 for at least 2 more years. For once, get it right! I don't need a new windows every 2 years. Just update/fix/streamline what you have. Learn how to code!!!! I'm tired of seeing code written by some wet-behind-the-ears bright college grad who just got out of training pants. Listen, Listen, Listen, Listen, Listen, Listen.

As for the job itself, if you wanted a chance - contact that chap that recently left the Midori team after 11 or so months - find out what direction he wanted to take and then offer the opposite in your resume

I'm fairly certain most of us caught that.

As for Windows 8, bring it on! Those of you who don't want to see a new OS for a few years. Thats your opinion and I respect it, my opinion is this. If you don't want to dish out the money for an OS every time a new one comes out, then don't! Don't complain about MS trying to make progress.

uh yeah, guess it was obvious,,,, but I will say this.

I too am all for windows advancement. But, I also think that a 3 to 5 year turn around is a short time frame for an OS. I am not sure of what changes could be made that would be so drastic that they could not be implemented with a Service Pack or Plus pack of some kind.

I thought that the Ultimate Extras would have been a good idea. Would be good if they pushed out pre-gold releases that way for testing and allow us to run apps through their paces before full gold RTM.

Anyway, I think Win 8 will be nice, but they really should focus on more customization ability for the end user, as well as remove a ton of the backward compatibility if they decide to release it any time soon.

But I don't expect to see Win 8 till between late 2012 to 2014.

But, by then, no one will have any money to purchase it.
So, maybe we will see the free ad supported windows Home release.

A new operating system wouldn't just bring fixes. It'd also (likely) bring new features, new GUI, etc.
