Windows 8, Windows 9 in the Post-PC World

Yeah Barman, I think we are agreeing actually. hahaha

Sinbin, not really, it is nice to be able to do certain things on the fly while you are out.
I mean, for some of us, transferring some money from Savings to Checking in a moments notice is a great feature to have, (as long as it is safe).

I agree on a lot of other things though, such as the garbage social sites.

"Woo hoo, I am tweetin that I am Woo Hooin', Yeah!!!"

Retarded, no offense to the handicapped. I am talkin about true retards, the ones that fall under the status of normal, but can't pull their heads from their arses.

If Im not driving to work, its a long train ride.
I have C&C RA2 to play with, or some circuit board diagrams to design.
If I need the net while 'out' I just wait till I get in the office.

Unlike the people who fall under Tepid's description of retards, I dont need to be netted up 24/7.
Infact, I prefer not to.

Agree 250%

I really don't need 24 hour 7 day week connections for a lot of the stuff I do anyway.

In fact often the Net can be a distraction too.

It's still great great to have a few islands of escape from these wretched devices for example through the Channel Tunnel where even a mobile phone doesn't work.

Far from being a retard I suspect that those people who are tethered to their Bosses every whim via their company Blackberry's look with envy at me on a Friday evening when I'm watching a DVD on a computer on a Eurostar train whilst they THINK they have to deal with zillions of pointless company emails and can't wait to get through the Channel Tunnel so the mobile connections start working again.

I'm dreading going flying when Mobile phones are available -- at least in a train you can walk away to the bar or switch a "Jammer" on -- but on a plane trapped next to someone yelling and screaming on a phone during a 10 hr flight from London to LA --- Horror.

Cheers
jimbo

The cloud seems like its a nice dream but won't happen within our life times. To many companies depend on the current state of things for the cloud to really take off any time soon.

As for tablets, I found the Archos 70 internet tablet to be very interesting, it does web, HD video and games. For me at least with a 7" screen is worth having with me and with remote desktop control on it I can remotely fix computers that are still connected online. With android 2.2 I think tablets might just start becoming a new computing device without having to have a phone in it and since it has its own apps etc no cloud yet.

finally got it!!!
Globally, very few place have consumer available Internet connections that would make the cloud feasible. Not to mention that the way the Internet works just now for managing sessions (session hijacking via cookies), old exploitable Javascript and in general current encryption leaves a lot to be desired for one to even feel safe on it.

Personally, it's not something I want.

Oh not to even mention that a lot of countries don't even allow very good encryption, and some don't allow any at all.
