windows 8 wish list.

i just thought it would be fun to start a list of things we would like to see included in windows 8. i have a few things to start off.

-tabbed view in explorer.
-alarm clock functionality built into taskbar clock.
-right-click launch menu's similar to what can be found on apple and many alternative shells.
-let me pick the programs i want installed when i choose custom installation, or at least let me uninstall any of the included programs without hacking the registry.
-begin transition to a registry free OS, sure most current programs use it so for functionality we need something similar now, but in todays computing age practically every computer in normal use is capable of programs being installed entirely into their own folder.(also this would make uninstalling software super easy since deleting the programs folder would completely remove all traces of that program.

just a few nit pick things i've always wanted while still being realistically feasible.

Two things: a Keyboard viewer, and easy access to common symbols, as seen below.
The symbols highlighted in orange add onto the following character. eg: ˚  and é ü

i started to follow your recommandation but really i'm just to lazy to sign up for another forum at the moment maybe later.

Tabbed view in Explorer would be better than what we have, but I much prefer a multi-pane file manager.

- The Kernel has to be redesigned to make full use of multicore processors
- The new system should be VM based so that all the legacy stuff can run as servers
- A consistent GUI - not every subsystem with its own rules (btw: Win7 is a step backwards over Vista)
- NT is too stretched - we need a complete redesign (BIG job though - that's why the legacy stuff has to be isolated)

Agreed. It worked for Apple, so it should work for Microsoft.

with an expected release in 2012 i don't think it's realistic to expect a new kernel. i could see that being a feature on the future azure platform ms is developing as a web os and my guess is probably going to be coming as the successor to win8.

One tiny thing. A Recycle Bin that has an Empty Look, a 1/2 Full Look, and a Full Look.
I keep thinking it's 'full' when it has 3 mbs of stuff in it.


Also, I second the alarm clock thing.
And more, simple, colorful, cursors. No unicorns, just different colors would be nice.
And, yes, it kinda sucks to have to sign up for another forum. Who runs these things anyways?

Why shouldn't you have to sign up for another forum, it's another OS after all. This one is for all things Windows 7 so it makes sense to have one that is just for Windows 8, which after all is an entirely new OS and has nothing to do with Windows 7, apart from being from Microsoft.

Oh and if you'd looked around you would have seen who the Admin for the site are and known who runs things.
