Hey, I was wondering... can Windows Aero run on 703MB System RAM? I am asking because I am thinking about buying a WDDM graphics card so it would run, but I really dont know if it would. Would the system ram matter? Could it run with that much RAM?

Hi curtjr4 and welcome to the forum!

Please review this tutorial on Aero which subsequently shows the Aero requirement ;)

Cheers ;)

Well, that said 1 GB RAM for it to run, but I talked to someone and they said that 512MB RAM would work, but 1 GB is reccomended. Is that statement true?

Sorry for "Double-Posting", but these are the main things that I need to know. Will my processor work, and is my RAM compatible. Information about my system follows.

1.20 gigahertz AMD Duron

704 Megabytes Installed Memory

Slot '0' has 512 MB
Slot '1' has 256 MB
Slot '2' is Empty

SiS 741 [Display adapter]
DELL M991 [Monitor] (17.7"vis, s/n 5C544241G11U, April 2002)

DOES THIS MEET THE MINIMUM AERO REQUIERMENTS?

Actually I think that statement is true and misleading. Will windows work on 512MB system ram? Yes. Will it run Aero automatically? No.

There have been tests done that made Aero run on a 512MB system without hacks, you just need to enable it manually. Please note that I've personally not tried this on my system. So, proceed with caution. The system will not enable aero by default if it doesn't meet the recommended specs.

It seems as if I can just type "Aero" in the taskbar, then I could click "Find and fix problems with transparency and other visual effects"*, and it will activate it by doing a series of tests.

*very simmilar to the auctual program name

One thing to note as you noticed, Aero might run on a 512 MB RAM or even less but you will not be able to get the full aero experience. There have been numerous posts on the net about making aero work for lower graphics cards as well but have not been able to fully unleash the full aero effects. I understand trying to make everything work on your setup. Please do note that with all these effects running on your system, it will make you run everything quite slow :(

I do know that I am buying a new WDDM card today, as I accedently grabbed the PCI Express instead of PCI. I then decided to ask if it would be compatible, before I even try putting in a expensive card. The new card i am looking at has 512MB RAM built in.

I took the rish and bought it. It is a Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS PCI (Not PCI-E) graphics card. It was a hassle to set up. My system has onbord graphics. I tried figuring it out for hours, then I figured it out. It wanted AGP mode ( 0_o ). I think that the machine is mentaly retarded or something... but I got it working. It switched to Windows Aero automaticly.
