Solved Windows Aero - White Shade to the left and right - Remove

I want to remove the white shade, or gradient, or whatever it's called, that is shown to the left and right of windows when using the Windows Aero theme. You can see the left white shade in the first ("White shade.png") image attachment, and how I want it to look in the second ("No white shade.png") image attachment.
But it's not as "easy" as that. Here's a "wishlist", with the result I want the most first, and the one I want the least at last:

  1. It should only affect Firefox windows, using CSS, Javascript, XUL or any other method in an add-on.
  2. It should only affect Firefox windows, using any other way.
  3. It should affect all windows, without the use of a program that needs installing (like replacing a file, or changing the registry etc).
  4. It should affect all windows, using any method.
I've asked for help about this in Firefox related forums as well, but with no results. But since it's related to Windows 7, and I've seen some awesome Customization tweaks here, I'll give it a go here too.

Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the Seven Forums
They are Reflectors in the aero.msstyles.
If you are using the default aero theme I can change that for you. And post i here in a zip.
If you are using a custom theme you will need to ask the theme maker. It's not cool to change someone else work.
&
You will need to do 1 of these 2 ways of Enabling custom themes for it to work.

I'm sorry that it has taken so long for me to reply. I started this thread the next last day before I was going on vacation, but on the last day we had no electricity so I couldn't reply.

Anyway, thanks :D. It works as supposed to. Items #3/#4 in my "wish list" solved. If anyone finds anything for items #1 and #2 I would be glad to hear about it.

I know that this is a little off topic, but you seem to know what you're doing, Jerry. Perhaps you know what the border colors and gradients for the window controls (exit, maximize/minimize etc) are, "expressed in CSS"? I know that it's about darker colors like rgba(10%,10%,10%,.65) and lighter like rgba(255,255,255,.56)...

First off, an example. This is Windows Explorer:
1.png
I have marked what I call "the content border" in red here:
2.png
Firefox has not got this border. Since I wanted Firefox to look more like other windows, I added them using CSS. That's easy. The hard part is to find the correct colors. After (way too) much investigation, I found that rgba(10%,10%,10%,.65) is almost perfect for the inner, darker color of the content border, and that rgba(255,255,255,.56) is almost perfect for the outer, lighter color of the content border. (If anyone finds better colors, please tell me.)

Now I want to do a similar thing: I'm trying to style a button (that is placed on a glassed background) in Firefox like the Minimize and Maximize buttons, ie those shown here, to the left of the Exit button:
3.png
So it's a matter of changing my button's background, borders and perhaps box-shadow. That's easy. The hard part is of course to find the correct colors. Since you seem to know quite much about Windows themes, I thought that perhaps you could find these colors easily? I mean, when you replied to my first post, you understood that "They are Reflectors in the aero.msstyles." Perhaps you understand the what I'm talking about now are "Window-button-style in the aero.msstyles" or something? It was just a thought ...

Thanks again. And ask again if it's still unclear :)

I could not find a rbga color picker so maybe you can get it from the images. I put them in a zip at the bottom.
Here are the images zoom in on

There are 3 colors for the "the content border"
FrameTop_GIMP.png
The buttons are in the .msstyles
MinimizeButton.Active_NormalImageGIMP.pngRestoreButton.Active_NormalImage GIMP.pngCloseButton.Active_NormalImage.GIMP.png
To change them there are many places, Active, inactive, then normal, hot, pressed, disable, then there are the glyph (?,X min, help, max, restore symbols) for each one.
Win7 Style Builder - CWindowsResourcesThemesAeroaero.msstyles.png
If you need more info or the rbg I can try.
Let me know.

So there are 3 colors for "the content border"? That's strange, because when I look at a window, I can only see 2 ... but perhaps that doesn't matter.

I would very much like a bunch of images from where I can get the rgba:s. I use Greenfish Icon Editor Pro (Greenfish Software), by the way.

I would like one for "the content border".
Then I would like images for the Minimize button, in these states:

  • Focused window > Normal
  • Focused window > Hovered (=Hot?)
  • Focused window > Pressed
  • Unfocused window > Normal
(I will never used the Disabled state, and intend to use the same look on Hovered and Pressed no matter if the window is focused or not, since there's no difference (is it?).)
I would like the Minimize button's glyph too, so I can take the colors from there to make my own.

I will look more into this tomorrow.
Thanks again.

Hi Jerry. Could you post the .msstyles image #s of the white left and right window border reflections, please? Will really appreciate the help as i'm tweaking my own Aero theme. Many thanks!
