windows audio device graph isolation has stopped working

If you do a google search for that item you will get a lot of info however most suggest the audio driver is the problem. Look for an updated driver and if none is available reinstall the one you have and see if it helps.

This has been done... I guess its a waiting game now. thanx 4 your help

so nothing has helped, i have uninstalled and reinstalled just about everything that i no of.... sound drivers, video drivers , graphics card drivers
HELP.

Looking at google hits, again, on this, it appears it is not related to the sound driver but is instead a Windows (Vista/Win 7) process - "audiodg.exe".


audiodg.exe - Windows Audio Device Graph Isolation

Windows Vista uses a new process known as audiodg.exe, which is a legitimate but non-critical component of the audio subsystem. If you check out the process in more detail via Task Manager, you'll find the name expands to the "Windows Audio Device Graph Isolation" process. It's not malware or spyware. It's used by Vista's audio component to handle DSP (Digital Signal Processing) and other duties, as explained below.

According to developer information published by Microsoft, this process was created for two reasons. The first is because the DSP system can make use of 3rd party code, and for internal reasons they're not allowed to use such external code in svchost.exe processes. Such processes are the common method for providing host services under Windows these days, but this particular component had to be split off into a separate binary.

The second reason is that the audiodg.exe code handles DRM (Digital Rights Management) tasks. According to a Microsoft insider, "the DRM system in Vista requires that the audio samples be processed in a protected process, and (for a number of technical reasons that are too obscure to go into) it's not possible for a svchost hosted service to run in a protected process."

Some users have reported excessive CPU usage by this process. Several have said disabling the process produced no negative effects, but immediately resolved the CPU consumption problem. These problems may be due to incorrectly designed applications that use the audio subsystem incorrectly, or a defect in Windows. No further information is available at present.

thanx Firebird I have read a lot of that on google...Its all intresting but, the dont tell you hw to fix it..Maybe i should shut it off...



as you can tell it happened every 10 min last night

Also it seems to not like nvidia control panel, specially when you do a desk top resieze, it seems to shut down windows explorer, and the windows audio graph isolation...

I looked at that file on my system. It is located in the Windows\system32 folder. The last time this file was accessed on my system was Feb 11, 2011. Maybe it has something to do with your NVIDIA card, I have an ATI Radeon HD4850 video card now but had an NVIDIA Galaxy GT450 installed for a short period (it turned out to not be as good as the HD4850 and my Windows Video score dropped from 5.9 to 5.7 with the GTS450).

performance has never been a issue... until... now...




But its narrowed down to nvidia or xbmc... My computer is mostly to watch movies and play music, and games...etc...

That is part of the VIA Chipset on the motherboard.

So it seemed to be the ne Nvidia driver 275.33 so i reinstalled the previous one.. no more ...... windows audio graph isolation stopped working I am not sure if that is the problem but it stopped showing up in the system reliability and problem history .........

So this is a good start.......

Good, looks like you found the problem. Maybe they will get it fixed in the next version. I had a problem with the AMD (ATI) Radeon Drivers for a while and couldn't update. I downloaded a driver update and then I couldn't start "Soldier of Fortune" game (the only one I have installed). As it turned out there was a new feature added to the drivers and it was not compatible with the old game. I waited through almost a year of updates and finally they came out with an update that fixed the incompatibility problem with the game. I'm now using the latest video driver for my HD4850 video card.

I am really hopeing ... I check the reliability meter and there has not been a issue since I rolled back my driver for Nvidia..... I find it odd that no one else has had this problem...... I figured i would run it for a week then mybe try the new driver again to really verify that it is that driver (275.33)

Your particular hardware configuration is probably the issue. There can potentially be thousands of different hardware configurations. The revision level of a hardware chip, etc.

This is the advantage Apple has since they have their own hardware and Operating System. They do not have to make an OS (and hardware) for other brands or configurations. This is also a disadvantage as you are stuck with what Apple wants and allows you to have.
