Windows Audio/Windows End Point Services crash

I have a very strange problem; hope someone has the answer to this one. On my new Windows 7 CPU a little red x appears next the the speaker icon every time I closed down certain programs. The programs I use that cause this to happen are Publisher 2003, FrontPage 2003 (yes, I still use that for some older web sites I work on), and yes, Solitaire XP. All of these are XP programs, but all work fine in Win 7. I can easily get the sound to work by clicking the speaker icon and letting the Fix wizard fix it-takes just a few seconds. Below is the error message I get. Any ideas on how I can stop this from happening, other than not using the programs I mentioned?

I'm on the run and can't fully digest your problem right now. But, I have Office 2003 Professional and FrontPage 2003 installed (and I use that to manage a couple of web sites) and it is not causing any sound problem on my new Win 7 64 bit system that has RealTek audio.

Nothing in your post about what hardware you have, including that sound device. Also, is this a system that was upgraded from XP or a new fully compatible Windows 7 system? Fill in the "My System Specs".

I could guess, but I'll wait till you fill in the system specs.

Audio issues

My computer is about a month old, an "Ultra" brand case...I purchased at a local computer store. It came with Windows 7 Professional, Service Pack 1, which has the XP virtual computer built in, but I haven't used it. The manufacturer is SI (whoever they are) The processor is a Pentium G640 2.8 ghz processor 4 gig RAM 64 bit.

That still doesn't tell me much, e.g. what is the brand and model of the motherboard? What sound module do you have? RealTek, IDT, Conexant?, etc. For example my motherboard is a Gigabyte Z77X UD5H and the sound module is RealTek.

Ultra is CompUSA's house brand computer products (at least the only place I've seen them).

In any case the first thing to do is go to the motherboard vendor's site and download and install the correct Windows 7 64 bit sound driver. Non-vendor sound drivers can have problems, not work correctly, etc.

Download and run the free Speccy and it will list what your motherboard and sound are. Speccy - System Information - Free Download

Audio issues

Downloaded & installed new driver. Problem still exists. I seem to be able to force it to occur when I play Solitaire (of all things) When I exit Solitaire, the Red X appears by the speaker. Very Very strange.

What does the Device Manager show for audio devices? Could be an extra/wrong device is listed or was detected.

I shows VIA High Definition Audio and also Logitek Webcam 9000, which is plugged into a USB port. Both work fine. I actually tried unplugging the web cam when this issue occured, and it didn't make any difference. Again, I appreciate you working with me on this!

Audio issues

I disabled the Webcam9000 in the Device manager and unplugged the web cam, and so far the issue seems resolved. I also have an outboard mixer plugged into the audio card for my audio production that I do on this machine. I use the Web cam for Skype. Is it not possible to have both plugged in at the same time?

I've seen a lot of audio and audio conflict problems caused by USB connected web cams. I don't have an answer or fix for why they do it.

Thanks-that is apparently the issue. Appreciate all your posts-they helped! Onward I guess. This will be in interesting problem to try to solve, now that I kind of know what it causing it.
