Windows Boot Time for High end Systems????

Hi all,

I have just done my own custom build
I have Core i7-930 2.8GHz Processer, Asus P6X58D-E, 6GB RAM, Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. C: drive is on a 1TB drive

Everything is now working fine, but my question is the bootup time from when I switch my pc on, till I see my icons is more then a minute??

I was under the maybe false impression that Windows 7 loadup times was only a few seconds??

I just spent more then £1000 on this system, was expecting it to be lightening quick??? My old PC was an old Dell with 512MB RAM and Windows XP and it loads quicker!!

What am I missing???

Besides win 7 what is loading? Antivirus? firewall, other apps, etc?

it does seem like a long time, considering your spec. do you have a lot of programs starting up (maybe unnecessarily) at boot?

do you want to see what's taking up that time?

try running the cool little program soluto, which analyses your boot, and gives you a pretty representation of what's going on. note that the program is still in beta, and isn't quite finished. it can't speed things up yet, but it can show you what's taking the time.

as far as hardware goes, easily the best thing you could do is splash out some more cash, and get an ssd drive, for blisteringly quick booting.

You should be getting quicker than that. My reboot time is around 40 seconds. See this thread - http://www.sevenforums.com/performance-maintenance/592-reboot-time.html and use the reboot script and then compare your time to others.

That will give you a better idea if your system is performing well.

i've just shaved 7 seconds from my boot!

i forgot to check msconfig after a couple of driver and software updates, and as usual, there was unnecessary cruft in there.

Yeee Haaaw...now I can sleep 12.9 seconds longer in the morning..and all it costs me is a measly 6 seconds, Soluto uses to start.

When my boot time is going towards say15, 20 minutes I would be worried but until then....My 7 boots up way faster then Vista. What else could I ask for

i'm glad you're happy and that we could give you a laugh.

if you want a bloated boot (and hence a bloated pc) and don't mind, then good for you.

the op has a query about the length of time his pc took to boot, and i pointed him towards an analysis tool, and reported some quick and easy results using it.

I am sorry if it looked like I was making fun of you guys. That wasn't my intention!
I was just stating that for me personally Soluto doesn't do anything.
My system isn't bloated...in fact it boots up and shuts down faster than all the other windows versions I ever had (granted those machines were much slower as well.)

How long is it after POST? Cause the BIOS on one of my machines takes about 20 seconds to finish POST.
