Using Win 7 Home Premium on Dell XPS 8700 64-bit
Received this message when trying to open System Restore:
"Windows cannot find 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\Restore\rstrui.exe'."
I opened the folder named restore (no uppercase R) in the referenced path - it was empty.
Used Everything Search utility and found 16 copies of rstrui.exe in the C:\Windows\winsxs\ folder and all named:
amd64_microsoft-windows-systemrestore-main_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.
(each name ended with a different string, eg, 17514_none_a505d556c9de886a).
Each file was 290KB.
Also found a file, also 290KB, whose name referenced rstrui.exe in C:\Windows\winsxs\Backup folder:
amd64_microsoft-windows-systemrestore-main_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.18869_none_a4d4b616ca02a3e8_rstrui.exe_dfa7225b
I haven't come across any other system oddities, but my ancient copy of Lotus Word Pro (9.5) suddenly began reporting that my system has no default printer. It certainly does have a default printer, but something in Windows must have changed to lead WordPro to sense that. Makes me wonder what else has happened.
Can anyone help me get System Restore back and maybe give a clue as to why that happened?
Thanks for any help you can offer,
EdP
