Hello, I hope you are doing well.

I am trying to set up a homegroup for the first time on my Windows 7 Professional computer and it isn't allowing me to. After I select what I would like to share (Pictures, Videos, etc.), and click on the Next button, I get the pop-up error message "Windows cannot set up a homegroup on this computer."

Any help? Thanks.

I got this same problem on every build of Windows 7 I tested. Never was able to get a functioning homegroup. I would also be interested in learning the solution, if one exists...

I only have my own computer on right now, but my girlfriend also runs Windows 7 Professional and we're connected to the Internet through the same wireless router. Just to clarify, I run into that error message when I try to create a homegroup.

Thanks.

Have you checked your IPv6 settings on machine and have you updated your Firmware on your router? Other then it saying cannot set up homegroup what is the error code that comes up?

I definitely have the latest firmware for the router. How do I check the IPv6 settings?

There is no other error code. I can take a screenshot if you'd like. Thanks.

Right click the connection that you want to change under network connections, then properties then networking tab, make sure internet protocol version 7 is checked and if it isnt then check it if it is t click it and goto properties, and make sure is on optain server address auto and and dns auto. Also does both computers have the same time on them that could also be a issue.

Thanks for replying. I could not find version 7, but I do have version 6 and 4. Both are set to the options you listed above. I'll try again when my girlfriend comes home with her laptop. Thanks!

This is a Dell Vostro 1500 laptop with 3GB of RAM. I am running 32-bit Windows 7 Professional on a wireless setup (Comcast is my high-speed Internet provider). Thanks.

Check your pc's clock. If your clock is off significantly from the pc whose homegroup you're trying to join it will fail.
