I have been trying all day to remove my computer from the home group. The error reads "windows cant remove your computer from the home group" I have spent hours reading blogs and trying what other people have done to fix the same problem but I have not had any luck. I have gone into services and activated the peer networking but still I am not able to disconnect. I am running out of patience can someone please help. I have gone as far as calling HP but they want to charge me $200.00 and I dont have that money right now to spend....

This is all I see for fixing this problem though I'm sure you have seen this before.

The fix for this problem seems to be Deleting the file idstore.sst under C:\windows\serviceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Roaming\PeerNetworking

And there is a good chance you will need to delete the entire folder, so everything including this entire file On all machines in the network >C:\windows\serviceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Roaming\PeerNetworking Needs to be deleted. After that you will want to leave the Homegroup on all machines and create a new one.

Start the Task Manager
Click on the service Tab
Find the "HomeGroupProvider"
and then stop the service.

You may need to go back into services and enable Peernetworking again after the fix. Don't forget to restart all machines making the adjustments.

You are right I have done that and when I go and start peer networking and restart its not running. For some reason it wont stay running. I have been looking at other posts something about window firewall do yu thing that might have something to do with it because i am receiving an error on that too. "windows firewall can;t change some of your settings error code 0x80070424. I am very frustrated and want to thank you for replying

It seems that in many cases the entire roaming folder needs to be deleted and you may also need to do the same thing on all network machines.

Here is another thread that shows success by being very tenacious about removing that entire file on all machines.

As you can see in the link I posted, that seems to be what it takes to fix this problem, not to mention deleting the file from the other Homegroup machines. :)

Yes the file is recreated as soon as you create a new Homegroup.

When tracking down the peer networking start up problem this link is all I find although it sounds like there may be more problems with that machine than just this. You might try typing sfc/scannow into an elevated command prompt then hit enter' let it run and see what it says.

Ok if you can't run the sfc/scannow command you have much bigger problems than just the network interface.

The workgroup is generally created automatically when you set up a Homegroup.

I can suggest a start up repair.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/681-startup-repair.html

Or a system restore.

A virus scan might also be a good idea.

I was actually going to do that about 6 hours ago BUT lol I have a pre installed version of windows and when I contacted HP they told me I can not set my computer from factory settings myself that they had to do it and they wanted to charge me $199.00 so at this point I am screwed. I dont have the money to spend on computer repair and wish i can find a way to do myself

You should tell HP that you will require an OEM copy of what ever version of Windows 7 is installed on your system. Though you could try doing the system restore without it.

You have already paid for this copy when you purchased your machine and most any OEM with any credibility would or should send you this copy free of charge, in fact it should have been included when you purchased the machine. The actual Windows key will be printed somewhere on your HP machine. In many cases there is an image of the original installation somewhere on your OEM hard drive.

There are also other legal means of obtaining a copy of Windows 7 "Home Premium?", though it usually involves downloading it from a third party.

In either event you should think about backing up anything important on that machine to another hard drive or a DVD.
