Microsoft has released a Command Reference downloadable file which contains details on all the commands that can be used at a Windows Vista or Windows 7 command prompt. While designed mainly for system administrators, this file is handy for the average user to keep as a detailed offline reference source for explaining all the parameters for every command. Aside from allowing advanced users to alter settings not available in graphical user interfaces, such commands are also extremely useful when performing such actions as system recovery or system formatting.

Important: If you download the CHM file and it does not open properly on your computer, you might need to unblock it. To unblock the CHM file, first save the file to your computer, right-click the file, click Properties, and then click Unblock.

Not Exact

I am interested in the download. But the right pane can't connect and I have no explanation of the command in the left pane. This would really be of a lot help to me. I have a lot of commands stored in notes (*.txt) files this would put them all in one place. Am I downloading it correctly or am I expecting too much?

I dunno, it started working. excuse me. It is a good tool for me.

I haven't really looked at it. I only know that it is an old .chm file that Windows 7 doesn't support by default.
Is it running for you?
If not, there is an update available at Microsoft that will enable Windows 7 to read the old compiled help files.

Here's the link for the reader (WinHlp32.exe): I cannot open Help files that require the Windows Help (WinHlp32.exe) program

It's Working

It works now with no effort on my part. The second or third time I invoked it, it came up operating. Win might have applied some compat settings. I don't know what occured but it now works. Should be useful in the future.

I had to open Properties for it then click on Unblock and now it works correctly.

It's a bit overkill though. No way that I could see to select just Windows 7 or Vista or XP commands.

a reference work needs to be full and complete, but i think i see what you mean.

i'm not sure if it's totally accurate either? as a quick example, look at the bcdedit entry, no mention of 7?
