Hello Everyone,

I really hope somebody can help me and apologies for another thread relating to this, however I have tried everything mentioned in the other posts to no avail. I have a clean install of windows 7 Pro sp1 and when I try and do a windows update I constantly get Checking for updates... It has sat on this for 2 days!

I checked this forum and google and have tried just about every suggestion I can find!

- Stopped the widows update service, renamed/deleted the software distribution folder, restarted the service / windows update reset
- Reinstalled windows
- Tried a different hard drive
- Changed intelligent background services and windows update services to auto
- Used to update repair tool
- Tried installing various KB updates manually
- Tried wireless, straight into the router and somebody else's internet
- Safe mode, disk cleanup
- I also tried the windows update fix and this just stays on "Searching for updates..."

It is extremely frustrating

I manually downloaded Security essentials and when that tried to update, that just stayed on searching for updates,

I have spent a good week now trying different suggestions, re-installing windows and even a new HDD and am at my wits end with it!

Please kind people..Save me from going insane!!!

Hi.

Don't worry mate. We gona help you. I hope...

I had this same problem two times and both times resolved it.

What computer are you using? Is it a Dell? What model is it?

I resolved this problem by
1. checking that I had the correct drivers for the machine. In once instance, I was on a Leveno laptop and it simply would not update anything until I downloaded the software Leveno have to run updats for the hardware. Once I installed all hardware updates - including Bios... It was all good with windows and updates just ran right through until fully updated.

2. Last week I had this problem on a Brand New Dell machine - latest hardware on the market and I would have thought it would be a plug and play situation but no... (Yes I still use windows 7 ;-) ) It turns out I could not run a single update!! It drove me mad until I remembered the earlier Leveno laptop incident. I then used the Dell hardware update application and did all the hardware updates including the BIOS update! The BIOS on the machine turned out to be 4 versions old and that was what was causing the updates from Microsoft not to run. After doing those hardware installs and doing all the BIOS updates, ta ta!!! Windows updates started to work.

Give it a try.

good luck.
