"windows could not configure one or more system components"

I am performing a clean install of windows 7 on my sony VGN-FW520F (which had Windows 7 previously).

I performed a secure erase of the HD with "Clean All" command in DISKPART and reformatted the drive in ntfs (As suggested in another thread with similar problems)

When I install Windows 7 64 bit I get an error 85% through that says "windows could not configure one or more system components" and requires a new installation.

Did I wipe critical drivers from SONY that are needed to perform an install?

If so what steps do I need to take to install Windows 7? I have spent 10+ hours trying to research and cant find anyone with this problem that is not fixed by completely wiping the hard drive.

Thanks....

The installer is driver-complete with a few minor exceptions, so that's likely not the problem.

Try entering Device manager during install to uninstall any device in error (likely Display) so that install completes, then update driver after install fromd desktop: Device Manager - Access During Windows 7 Installation

If this fails, reset the CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

While in BIOS setup set SATA controller to AHCI to try install, then IDE if necessary.

Sometimes removing more than 2gb of RAM will allow install to complete. Test your RAM: RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Why are you Reinstalling?

Are you using the Sony Recovery Disks?

   Information
We always assume you have made your Recovery Disks using the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Media Creator app the first day you had your new PC.
& made the Startup Repair CD.

Did you make the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Disks?

Well I have tried all the recommendations and nothing has worked!!!

I. When I enter device manager after my stated problem" there are only 2 drivers that are unknown both listed under "other devices":

1. Unknown Base System Device
2. Unknown Device

When I disable them (tried several times) or uninstall them (tried several times) I get the following message:

"The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click “ok” to restart the computer, and then restart the installation.

II. I also tried several times to disable the video driver (in the Device Manager) before the drivers were assigned and that did not help either.

III. I also ran a memory check on my RAM and it was error free...

>theog - I did make Sony recovery CD's but they do not boot at startup... I had to wipe my comp clean because of malware, which also installed on my recovery partition which led to hours of trying to get rid of it.. I then decided to just wipe the whole hard drive (which I would have wanted to do anyway after being infected)..I had nothing of value on my computer and a new windows 7 disk (without all the extra SONY software)... I just figured it would install right up and I would have my computer in top form...

I just hate to spend $62 for a set of SONY restore disks that come bloated with all that extra software that I never use.... I cant believe that there is no way to install Windows 7 on a wiped clean SONY Laptop!!

Any help is appreciated!!

If you want to continue troubleshooting the install then you will get it clean installed one way or the other. If all install troubleshooting steps faiil we will help you install it to HD on another computer and move it to the problem computer to start it.

What happened after your reset the BIOS? What is the SATA controller setting now, and available settings?

How much RAM is currently installed?

If you wish to proceed you must be thorough and not skip any steps, report back the results of each step in real time, or ask questions to get each done correctly.
