Hi, when booting in safe mode Windows only boots core "basic" drivers essential for its running. A list appears when booting into safe mode. Recently, I think, my computer contracted a virus and when I boot into safe mode there are a load of "drivers" which never used to load on startup. How do I stop them from loading as essential drivers? ...after that I can remove them myself. I didn't know you could set drivers to be made "default", how do you do such a thing? Thanx.

Heres the list for vista. Win7 should be quite similar.

Which drivers get loaded in safe mode?

You can edit startup tab in MSCONFIG (click on Start button, then type "msconfig" without the quotes) to prune the list of items that get loaded when windows boots up. Also in the General tab, you can select the type of startup- Normal to load all drivers and services, Diagnostic to load only basic drivers and services.

Thanx for the reply. That doesn't and wouldn't work as the drivers have been added the the essential/basic drivers list, I need to locate and edit that list; if such a list exists?
