The "Software Explorer" option that was present in Windows Defender in Vista is found to be missing from Windows 7 (7048 build). Will the "Software Explorer" section get removed from Windows Defender of Windows 7 ? Can anyone give an update on this?
Yes, the "Software Explorer" has been removed from Windows Defender from the (build 7048) and newer. Windows Defender has gone to being only a malware scanning feature now as it was intended to be.
You will need to use these methods below instead to change any startup programs.
Yes I too liked the Software Explorer feature, It made it real easy to stop start up programs without using msconfig or regedit. Keep the Software Explorer feature or put a version of it somewhere else in Windows 7 as a separate function.

This will allow you to remove or suspend anything that is run in the background of Windows -
Warning
It is obviously a powerfull tool and so I would suggest if you are not sure of what an option does then leave it alone and use the options in the tutorial

Winpatrol has very useful startup utility incorporated into it. You can alter startup behaviour in several different ways - per current user or all users for instance, and move items from regular startup to delayed startup.
