windows detected a hard drive problem

keep getting this message pop up every few minutes 'Windows detected a hard drive problem'.
I ran a disc check and it found no problems with the disc. Should I take this message as gospel and invest in a new drive...there is a lot of data on this drive that I dont want to lose.

I just want to add that the FIRST thing you should do in a case like this is back up your data.

The reason for this is IF you have an actual problem the diagnostic test may be the last thing you do with the drive.

Required nag: You should have your important data backed up anyway. If it is not backed up, it is not important!
