Windows Device Manager

I downloaded Windows Device Manager so I could connect a scanner. The data downloads fine but there is always this error when the scanner is connected to the computer: "There is no email program associated to perform the requested action. Please install an email program, or if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel." I don't want any email program on the computer. Is there any way of getting rid of this error?

What is the "Windows Device Manager" you say you downloaded? w7 has one built in, maybe it's the problem or perhaps the scanner is too old.

wpdfran because we don't like to lead members in the wrong direction and do harm could you please answer some questions.
1. Have you tried using Windows 7 built in Device Manger?
2. Could you explain why you don't want any email service installed on your computer?

Their are so many scanners on the market it's hard to tell for sure but some where in the scanner properties might be a place to unselect the use of email.
Have you confronted the scanner manual?

I think that the OP is downloading some scanner manager software/optical Reader - he may be calling it Windows Device Manager.
wpdfran, can you please give full details of the scanner which you want to connect like the manufacturer, model. no.etc., and also what exactly is the scanner manager software/optical Reader (as I understand ) you have downloaded? Please provide the link too.

Did not the scanner itself come with any appropriate software for it?
