my win7 doesn't load after the "starting windows" page.

re-installed it so i can't even go into safe mode because it says it needs to be in normal operating mode to resume installation.

it was working fine one day and at the next boot up, it won't load anymore.

help anyone?

what build are you running? did you add any hardware or software that could be the culprit? do you know how to repair your installation?

did you do an upgrade to windows seven from a previous version of windows,or was it a clean installation?
and just to rule it out,did you install any antivirus/firewall afterwards?

although i haven't looked at seven's F8 menu yet,I'm pretty sure that it must have an option to stop windows from restarting itself due to system failure.so if you can boot with that option on you'll probably get to see a bsod with info about what's causing the failure ;)

it was a clean installation. a trial version of antivirus was installed and the trial expired.

it doesn't restart itself at all. after the "starting windows" screen it just shows me a blank screen. the light on my monitor will flicker as if gone on standby as well.

I got to say that after reading about your problem I still don't get it

you said you did a clean installation, and after that you installed a trial, which expired. onto that you did another install? which didn't finish cause of the bsods?

or

you had a clean install that went bad cause of the video drivers and to repair it you did a reinstall right away?

boot up with your cd in the drive. go through the installation process again and keep an eye out for the "repair" option. choose it and let it do it's thing.
let us know how this goes. we need to try that before we do anything drastic.

Hi,

It sounds like the 'Native' (default) drivers for your GFX card are having some issues.

I would recommed http://www.sevenforums.com/installation-setup/11273-install-windows-7-safe-mode.html and disable your GFX card. This will cause windows to use 'Standard VGA Adapter' but should allow completion of installation and even get your desktop up and running.

From there you can download the latest drivers from your manufacturers website.

Hope this helps :)

  1. My system specs are loaded :)
  2. I had a similar experience yesterday. Attempted to boot 7229 x64, clean install (with some stuff loaded, the install is a couple or more days old) and got stopped at the "Starting Windows" boot screen.
  3. I was able to boot in safe mode
  4. Attempted to reboot in normal mode - no dice. Reasonable as I didn't change anything when booted in Safe Mode
  5. Rebooted in Safe Mode and took a look at the restore points. Only thing of interest was a windows update.
  6. Rolled back to before that last windows update
  7. Rebooted into "normal" mode - no issues
It would appear there was something in that Windows Update D/L causing that problem.

Is there a way, given the above sequence of events, for one to recover a list of the contents of the D/L that was installed as a part of the windows update?

i am having a similar issue, bu thave not been able to get it nailed down. ive tried a new mobo, memory, psu, hd, nothing helps.format reload works for a few days, then same problem.now heres the weird part: i gave up last night, forced it to shut down, left it till this morning, and it booted fine. i decided to look for any commonalities in the event viewer, and all i could find was a Dcom error 1084. i shut down and turned it back on, no good. all i can do now is boot into safe mode. I AM ABSOLUTELY FED UP!! any one got ANY ideas?

I'm having the same issue, ran windows update today on a 7100 build. I selected the recommended Update:
Internet Explorer 8 Compatibility View List for Windows 7 RC for x64 (KB971930)
And Optional Updates:
Samsung - Display SyncMaster 204T/204Ts/204B, SyncMaster Magic CX201Ts(Digital)
Office Live Add-in
Network Monitor 3.3
nVidia - Display - NVIDIA GeForce GTX260

repair did not work and the Problem Signature mentioned
ExternalMedia
BadDriver

disabling the reboot after crash in the F8 didnt prevent it from rebooting during the windows load screen to get the details

I dont have any external media so I'm not sure what that is about, I disabled the nvida cards (as mentioned in this thread) in safe mode then was able to boot back into win7

Next I enabled both cards and allowed it to reboot, it crashed on load again

back in safe mode I installed drivers from nvida's site directly

during the driver install it said 'Stereo Server has not been properly installed' [OK] being the only choice I clicked it and it finished 'successfully'

that still crashed when booting into win7

back to safemode, chose 'uninstall' from device manager rather than 'disable' (I also checked the box that said delete drivers), then went into control panel and removed anything Nvidia (some stereoscopic view program and physX)

window 7 now detected my cards and installed device drivers. I clicked the status baloon from the systray and hit 'skip obtaining driver software from windows update'

windows reported they installed and required reboot, finally success! back in win7 and hopefully this helps someone else

Now all I have to worry abotu are the phenom of disaooearing programs

Welcome to Windows SevenForums guygold
You've asked your question in a two month old topic ...
We need your system specs (please fill them out in "User CP")
What version of Windows 7 (Beta 7000, RC 7100, or?)
What you've done so far (clean install or upgrade)

It's terribly hard to 'troubleshoot' with absolutely no information
