Hi. i just got windows seven on a brand new laptop and for some reason when i click things it may happen twice.

For instance in firefox if i click back it might go back twice or it might open two instances of a window when i click on one.

Another problem I've been having is, when typing it will jump back half way through what i have just been typing

I don't know if this is windows seven or my laptop. If someone could help me it would be much appreciated.

Btw my laptop is a Acer emachines E627.

You might want to run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor to make sure your system can run Windows 7.
It's most likely a driver problem.

It seemed to pass the test alright. I brought it with windows 7 already intalled so i would be worried if it couldn't handle it.

Any suggestions as to do with the drivers?

If the laptop did not come with Seven, you need to find drivers for the motherboard, keyboard, and trackpad.

Maybe you need a driver for whatever you are using to click twice.

I would probably say look at folder options and see if you have it set to click once to open instead of twice or whatever it says, but I do not know why it is jumping back when you type.

Maybe even adjusting the mouse or touchpad might help.

Ah, thanks for reminding me Saltgrass,

Check to see if Single Click is on or off in Mouse Settings.

~Lordbob

EDIT: I think this is a touchpad driver issue.
Double Edit: Check your Touchpad Sensitivity setting.

Thanks for all the help.
I have tried updating the drivers, there was nothing. I adjusted the double click speed and it still does it.

It's not really that it double clicks it just does things twice like opening and then closing the start menu when i click it once.

Which would be caused by it clicking twice.

You don't have Single Click turned on do you?

Yeah thanks for all the help. I'm thinking it might be a faulty driver as the mouse is rather bad and the mouse wheel doesn't even work.

But any help on my other problem it jumping back when im trying to type??

That setting is in control panel/folder options. I would try the single click option. I looked around for drivers for your emachine but no luck there.

It might be worth trying a different Acer touchpad driver from another model that is made for Windows 7.

You could also try updating the touch pad driver from Device Manager, right click on "mice and other pointing devices" then right click on the touchpad icon and have it look for a better driver, although that is a long shot at this point.

Finally i fixed it!
I decided to try my brothers mouse and see if that fixed the clicking issue. It fixed it and now my pc is working great except for that typing thing.

Thanks for all the help people, I think i'll be investing in a new mouse soon.

Well, the typing thing could be a faulty touch pad, or faulty Keyboard, or settings.

I just realized you had a separate mouse. That would easily explain it! Seems you got it on your own though, nice job.
